I am happy to announce that my Python interpreter has been ported to
MS-DOS, and that both source (for Borland Turbo C 2.0) and an
executable are available by anonymous ftp. The site is ftp.cwi.nl (IP
number 192.16.184.180), the directory is /pub, and the files are:
python0.9.6.tar.Z original source distribution
python-dos-patch PC source patches
python0.9.6.zip PC binary (.exe in .zip file)
Use binary mode in all cases. If you don't have ftp access, you can
send e-mail to ftp...@decwrl.dec.com with a body containing only the
word HELP; this server can fetch the file(s) and e-mail them to you.
If you don't know yet what Python is: it's an interpreted,
interactive, object-oriented programming language. (Yes, I'm trying
to compete with lisp, perl and tcl here!)
Python incorporates modules, exceptions, dynamic typing, very high
level dynamic data types, and classes. The language combines
remarkable power with very clear syntax. It has interfaces to many
system calls and libraries, as well as to various window systems, and
is extensible in C or C++. It is also usable as an extension language
for applications that need a programmable interface. Finally, Python
is portable: it runs on many brands of UNIX, on the Mac, and now
MS-DOS.
