It's a long i, by the way.
What does it mean in backgammon though? Are my chequers wandering around
without any aim or purpose? Or am I just deviating from my game plan?

OK, I'll tell you:
Your first option is cheap, backyard irony (I suppose it was just to please Kevin Bastian).
The second one is reasonable, and in fact it is quite close.
BTW what means musings? (I have only an Oxford dictionary, therefrom Cambridge expressions seam to have been banned)
