The reason for the somewhat enigmatic title is explained in the lengthy
introduction which looks at how we learn about backgammon.
The book is an anthology of:
-My Independent Newspaper backgammon columns 1998-2001 (for non-UK
readers the Independent is one of the UK's leading broadsheet newspapers
where I write the bg column every Saturday)
-NetGammon Articles
-Additional material provided in support of the newspaper column and
distributed to readers on request
-RIP Inside Backgammon
Unlike my previous book the articles are presented in chronological order
with the idea of seeing the growing impact that our silicon colleagues have
had on the game. All the articles have been reviewed in light of our latest
knowledge and thinking of the game. The original articles are presented
verbatim but "Authors Notes" are liberally sprinkled throughout the book
where theory or thinking has changed.
The only articles not included in the book are a few beginners' refresher
columns that I didn't think were relevant.
The book is soft-bound, 250 pages, A4 (near US letter) size. It contains
around 200 positions.
Prices (individual copies):
United Kingdom £14 + £3.50 p&p
United States $20 + $10 p&p

33% of all profit from the book will be donated to sportrelief.com. This is
a charity set up by the BBC in the UK to benefit disadvantaged children
around the world and is being promoted in conjunction with this year's
football World Cup. See the web site for more detail. I must acknowledge the
contribution of my employers, IBM, in helping towards the publication of the
book so that we can maximise the donation.
