Firstly, the languages will be too different to be house under one roof. It would be too
much like having this newsgroup service both VB and Delphi. They look a lot alike, but the
question generated from one will have nothing to do with the other.
Secondly, it just gives me the shivers thinking about the repeat, after repeat, after
repeat questions that are sure to be generated under .NET. You think we get a lot of
repeats of the same questions here? I can't even imagine what the VB.NET world will
generate <g>.

So do i. The attempts of uniting the C and C++ echos on Fidonet has
failed each time and there was more than a bit of resemblance there in
the language.
Unfortunate for the C++ guys, having realised that after a while they
had to resort and learn C practices, by that time they have alienated
most of the C programmers with their rhetorics so all they've got was
the finger. :-)

Yeah, yeah.. You are just worried about having to convert your
kludges. ;-)

Oh yeah, that too! <g>
Actually, I'm not so sure that I'm going to be an early adopter of VB.NET (or any of the
other new Microsoft products). First, the stuff I use now more than services my needs.
Second, where it doesn't, I think I may be getting too old to go learn and entire new
environment just to find them (here I'm obviously referring to .NET stuff). Third, and
this is important to me, I don't wish to support Microsoft's new "you must register your
computer hardware (and software?) with us and tell us whenever you change it" registration
system for its upcoming software. So, for those of you who are willing to abandon your
privacy rights to the Microsoft juggernaut, I'm afraid you will be leaving me behind.
You'll always be able to find me on the non-VB.NET newsgroups though (as well as the
alt.anagrams newsgroup). Personally, I'd love to see a huge uproar from the software
buying public and a withholding of their dollars from Microsoft until Mr. Gates abandons
this nefarious scheme; but, alas, I'm not foolish enough to think many will join my
crusade.

Me neither - and for similar reasons.
And the movement's ranks swell ...
Yep. I'm also staying with what i (claim to) know. If the proverbial
hits the fan and VB is killed of with some MS trickery, i'm going C.
It'll always be around.. Although Delphi is a slight possibility, but
that means learning..frankly i'm always willing to a learn a bit more
at a time, but i'm not really interested in learning a whole new
language from scratch.
Takes the fun out of coming up behind the kids and saying "Homework to
do huh ? I'll just have a game while you guys do that.." <evil grin>

What, have you all skipped over Larry's, MichKa's, and my rants about B#,
Visual Fred, VB.NOT, and VB.NyET?

I'd love to know when VB7, as opposed to VB.NyET, will be ready! The
Implements keyword didn't require breaking all our existing code, so
why should Inherits?
