This FAQ contains information about Internet resources for undergraduate
and graduate student internships, fellowships, and other resources. It is
posted monthly to the Usenet groups sci.chem, sci.research.careers,
misc.jobs.fields.chemistry, sci.answers, and news.answers The latest
version can be obtained either from those groups, or via FTP from the FAQ
archive site at rtfm.mit.edu.

Comments, contributions, and corrections are invited and encouraged. Feel
free to point out broken links in follow-ups to this post.

Subject: 2. Where Can I Find an Intenship in Academia?

2.1 NSF REU Program

The United States National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates
(REU) program provides support for undergraduate students in science and engineering
research projects in an academic setting. REU grants come in two types: 1) REU Sites and
2) REU Supplements. REU sites are typically organized around a common theme and are often
offered during summer months. Recruitment of students from outside the host institution
is encouraged. REU Supplements are associated with individual NSF awards and are typically
limited to one or two undergraduate students.

interested. The time between award announcement by NSF and site application deadlines
is often quite short.
