If you have an interest in the service pack beta for Visual Studio 6.0,
please nominate yourself for the beta. We have made substantial fixes to
the 6.0 product since the last service pack, especially with VC++6.0 and
VB 6.0. We are looking for quality customer feedback.

To nominate yourself:

1) If you do not have a Passport account, please make one.

2) Log into http://www.betaplace.com using your Passport account.

3. Select "I have been issued a GuestID"

5. Enter GuestID: vsndpspguest

6. Click on VS6 SP6 Program link under Enrolled Programs. This will then
take you to the guest content page with the link to the nomination form
under "Surveys".

Thanks,
Tony Pacheco

Tony -

Any idea when we might see a list of fixes and/or enhancements in this
Service Pack? This is more suspenseful than an Agatha Christie novel. ;)

Yes Yes Yes,

I thought, VS6 was given up on and SP5 would be the last one. Where can we
get a list of fixes. One fix I am really interested in that we logged with
Microsoft 1-2 years ago was Out Of Memory error message compiling projects
that exceeded some arbitrary public properties limit. Do you know if that
was fixed?

Given that there probably that there will not be a SP7, I sure hope this fix
does suffer from the curse of the even numbers.<g>

Oops.... forgot one word...

Given that there probably that there will not be a SP7, I sure hope this fix

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Well the only way to get a list of fixes is to get into the beta. I can
tell you for VB we made enhancements to security and stability. We rolled
up all the QFEs to date, and fixed a few PDW bugs.

Thanks,
Tony

I would not say that. I wish I could say that :-)

Given the length of VB6 support with the chance of the future OSes
introducing major issues, there is a good possibility of an SP7. I can't
make any promises, but a decision for SP7 is going to be based on technical
merits. If customers keep submitting hotfix requests on the 6.0 product or
if a future OS version blows up VB6 apps, then I could see an SP7 or even
an SP8.

Thanks,
Tony [MSFT]

Tony,
I went to the registration page and followed your
procedures below but nothing happened - there was no
download of a service pack.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Best wishes
Ben

You will only be contacted if you are selected to participate. Eligible
testers will receive program instructions within 3-4 weeks.

QFEs? Would those letters have anything to do with bugs? Specifically event related
bugs... even more specifically, events raised from modal form bugs? If not, the entire
beta thingy is a waste of my time.

Sorry. QFE = Hotfix. A bug fix for a customer made before the next service
pack. The fix is this rolled into the next service pack. In this case, SP6.

Thanks,
Tony

Tony, you should work for the White House or a damage control team...
You're a regular brick wall when it comes to the specifics of this
SP release... which I'm guessing was mandated upon you... I can
wait... but the sharks can smell the bait and they want some meat!

Yeah, and I am busy holding my breath for the ability to pool COM+
components... ;)
