GammonVillage is a subscription site, but I think this article is free. I'll
quote the reviewers conclusion.
"Despite the above criticism I wouldn't hesitate in recommending
Understanding Backgammon as a great second book for Beginners, or
experienced Intermediates struggling to improve their game. A further
readership niche would be Advanced or Expert level players actively engaged
in teaching the game. In this light, the book provides a valuable window
into the contrasting thought processes of the master and apprentice, the
scope of their vision and priorities of concern."
If you want to look at some samples from the book, you can find some on
Kit's website. http://www.gammonline.com/demo/Ordering/order.htm.

I bought the book and am very happy with it. There are a few other
books I like better, which are, in order, Modern Backgammon, New Ideas
in Backgammon, Advanced Backgammon Vol 1 & 2. I think I'd put it
right after those. So I'd recommend getting those first if you don't
have them, but if you do I think it's a fine book.
