Oh, how does that work then? ;-)

I think you'll find this place is too politically correct now.

I mean, FFS:

I'd not say that it was quite as plain as that... we have a more service
based economy, rather than manufacturing one now, for one thing...

Didn't Germany have a similar problem with their beef?

Personally I think it's an overcrowded shithole that I want to leave when
the time is right, but that's neither here nor there...

Here is an interesting article from _The Independent_ ...

url:http://news.independent.co.uk/europe/story.jsp?story=365776

Some excerpts are that currently, 800,000 UK citizens' jobs depend on

Europe. 58% of British imports go to Europe. That's four times as much as

Britain exports to the United States. Thanks to the EU, Britain has
tariff-free access to 380,000,000 consumers. The biggest and richest
market in the world. British citizens have freedom of movement anywhere
within the UK: a privilege enjoyed by over half a million Brits. EU law
protects the rights of workers (something which the UK was singularly

failing to do), and outlaws discrimination based on sex, colour, religion,

etc. A decade ago, fifty percent of Britain's beaches were a danger to
health. Now thanks to Europe, only 1.5% are. Finally, Britain can use
European Law to force France to buy its infected beef.

Put into perspective, the Little Engländer rantings by Mark and John,
really do look just that: Little Engländer rantings.

'ere! I'm for Europe as long as it stays by the treaty of
1957 which established a common market. I am not for
'union' in any shape or form.

A common market world over would be even better, IMHO, but the EU is a least
a reasonable start towards that.

Well thankfully for the British, union is going to come, and the UK will
sooner or later be part of the euro.

Lots of things are going to come including tsumeis,
asteroid/comet collisions, super volcanic eruptions and
various nasties connected with global warming such as more
widespread floods, and increasingly violent tornadoes/cyclones
etc. One, at least, of these dire events will precede further
union with Europe and if so wull make all man's little plans
seem completely irrelevant.

However, I take back the 'Little Engländer' jibe.

Ta.
