rexec safe with Python 2.1?

You may have noticed that rexec was pulled under 2.2.3 because it
currently isn't safe. AFAIR the reason it became unsafe was new-style
classes.

My question is wether falling back to Python 2.1 will make rexec safe again.

IOW, rexec was never safe.
