Does anybody know any good Chinese restaurants close to the London Eye?

Best bet, China Town to guarantee quality.

Thanks, DC, that's what I suggested - I'm looking for help for a friend, but
he was hoping for somewhere even nearer.

It's a nice walk back though, over the New Hungerford Bridge. There
are many good restaurants around The Cut (Waterloo) however I don't
know any chinese ones. I'd agree with the other who recommend the
walk North to Soho for China Town. While we're talking central
London, the new Malaysian Cafe (lower West side of Wardour Street) is
good; especially the drinks. The sour plum and lime drink is my
current fave.

Isn't there a large Chinese restaurant located in County Hall?

We tend to go to Chinatown too, though.

Last weekend we took a vegetarian friend to Joy King Lau on Leicester
Street - it's the first time I've been there in years and the decor
looked faded (a sign inside the door said it was closing soon for
renovations), but the food was as good as ever and the vegetarian was
quite impressed. I've heard good things in the past about Mr Kong, on
Lisle Street.

It's a nice walk from the London Eye - builds the appetite!

When I lived in London, I used to go to Mr. Kong's a *lot*. I always enjoyed
the food in there. The deep-fried duck in yam paste was artery-cloggingly
superb!!

I heard recently that the chef, manager and on of the waitresses recently
moved to a different restaurant in Chinatown. Anyone know any more details?

The Great Wall at the Tower Bridge end of Tooley Street. Nearest tube is
London Bridge. If you are walking from the eye you are best to cross to the
north side of the river and stroll down the embankment before crossing south
over either Tower Bridge or London Bridge.

That sounds like a huge detour to me. Why not continue up the riverside
walk on the south bank? It's virtually continuous from the Eye to London
Bridge.

I don't recall the South Bank being as continuous as the North Side, doesn't
it peter out near Southwark Bridge and The Borough?

Not that I'm aware. You can cross under London Bridge then walk along the
river's edge all the way to the Design Museum. Then you have to go inland for
a while.

Ashamed to admit it as an exile from the Bermondsey/Borough area, but I am
a lot more familiar with the north bank as I tend to work mostly in the city
(Fenchurch Street at present). But in my defence the regeneration of the
south bank means that there is very little left of the area that was the
*stomping ground* of my youth.
