I just downloaded Fink 0.5.1 installer to use on an OS 10.2.3 G4
machine. I also read the warning that says:

"Do not use this installer if you have MacGIMP or OpenOSX.com's GIMP
package installed."

A while back, I installed gimp-print 4.2.1 to try to solve a printing
problem.

Obviously, my ignorance makes me nervous. Is gimp-print 4.2.1 the
same thing as (for purposes of Fink 0.5.1) MacGimp or OpenOSX GIMP??

Does just having a piece of GIMP preclude me from using the installer?
I do NOT want to screw up my machine!!

Can I run the Fink installer SAFELY in this circumstance?

If necessary, can I uninstall gimp-print 4.2.1 (it turns I don't need
the gimp print driver after all)? HOW? (% locate gimp returns about 160 file
names!)

And if can't remove gimp-print, I might have to install Fink from source??
It says it can take DAYS to do that.

Thank you.

(Sorry about the previous truncated post: mailer choked on an unintended control character.)

It shouldn't problem. The gimp-print installation only installs the unix
printer drivers. MacGimp and OpenOSX gimp install a complete Xfree86 GUI
environment needed to run the Gimp program. Fink may conflict with this,
because if you use it to install graphical unix-apps with it, it will
install Xfree86 over the OpenOSX and MacGimp installations. If you have
no xfree86 installation, it's not a problem.
