Hi all,

I just read, over on alt.tv.friends, that cornflakes supress your libido.

Anyone know whether this is true or got any further details on it?

It's not true in practice, but they were developed with the intent of
helping people keep their sexual impulses in check. The clergy and medical
authorities of the 19th century were convinced the certain foods had
stimulating effect on the sex organs. It was believed that parents could
protect their children from the "sin" of masturbation by eliminating foods
which were believed to excite the sexual organs, notably coffee, tea, and
chocolate, and to substitute "unstimulating" foods in their place, most
notably grain products. In the 1830s the Reverend Sylvester Graham
developed a cracker, since called the graham cracker, for the purpose of
helping people keep their sexual impulses in check.

So what does this have to do with corn flakes? Well, one of the leading
medical authorities in the late 19th century was the superintendent of the
Battle Creek Sanatorium in Michigan, Dr. J.H. Kellogg (1852-1943),
otherwise known as the father of the modern breakfast cereal. Kellogg, a
follower of Graham, was especially concerned with the "dangers" of
masturbation. Kellogg, like Graham, believed that sexual desires could be
controlled by following a diet of simple foods, especially grain products,
including the corn flakes he developed that now bear his name.

So there you have it folks. Now go load up on coffee and cocoa puffs
and try and control all those evil impulses;)

Only when taken with Mr. Kellogg's enema treatments.
