I have to upgrade from 5.0.5 Desktop (2 users) to 5.0.6 Enterprise (10
users?).
I read some topics about but I have some douts.
What is the in-place upgrade?
Sco sent to me the liceses for 5.0.5 Desktop to 5.0.6 Desktop and from
5.0.6 Desktop to 5.0.6 Enterprise. How I have to use them?
Because I have all the CD for 5.0.6 Enterprise installation, may I
reinstall all the OS from the begginning (no upgrade)?
If I will upgrade, what about the installed hardware? (I have sound card
and Specialix multiserial)
Where may I find a documentation about uprgade procedure?
Thanks in advance
maximo
First off I would recommend that you backup your system before you
upgrade.
Secondly, people dont usually upgrade from a Desktop (single user)
product to a server so the process is a little convoluted.
You have two options:
1) Do an inplace upgrade as follows:
- Boot from the 506 media and choose to install
- During the Install you will be asked if you want to
do a Fresh Install or Upgrade. Choose upgrade
- You will also be asked for your licence. Enter the
desktop licence
- When the install is complete, run the Software
manager and install the SCO OpenServer Enterprise
from the 506 CDROM
- You will be prompted for a licence. Enter the Desktop->Enterprise
upgrade licence
2) Do a fresh install upgrade as follows:
- Boot from the 506 media and choose to install
- During the Install you will be asked if you want to
do a Fresh install of Upgrade. Choose fresh install
- You will be asked for your licence. Enter the
desktop licence
- When the install is complete. Restore your configuration
information and data from backup
- When the restore is complete, run the Software
manager and install the SCO OpenServer Enterprise
from the 506 CDROM
- You will be prompted for a licence. Enter the Desktop->Enterprise
upgrade licence

Because I don't have to save my previous installation (all the software
will be reinstalled because we want a 'new and clean machine') I think the
best choice is to do a Fresh install.
One basic way could be also reformatting the disk and install 5.0.6
Enterprise enterly. The Fresh install do something like that? There any
other way to do that?
thanks,

It i not possible to do this. You will need to
fresh install the Desktop and then upgrade to Enterprise
as described in the last posting.
Sorry,
John
jumping in to clarify...
It's not that it can't be done, it's that you don't have that type of
license.
You don't have a regular stand-alone enterprise licence, you have a desktop
license, and a desktop-enterprise upgrade license.
If you enter the desktop-enterprise upgrade license at the first install
prompt, it will correctly deny you from performing a full fresh enterprise
install with only an upgrade license, which costs a lot less than a full new
license. otherwise we could all by cheap upgrades only and get full installs
with them. :)
So in your case you must follow the path of your licenses. install desktop,
then upgrade to enterprise.
