I found these recipes in alt.food.vegan and remembered that there was
someone who had asked for recipes for vegan ice cream, yes?

***Luxury Choc Banana Ice Cream***

This is actually low in fat and contains very little refined sugar,
but it isn't cheap and certainly doesn't taste like health food!

1/2 container (8 tbsp) plain 'Yofu' soya yoghurt, (or similar brand)
1 carton soya cream (to economise, use 200ml soya milk + 50ml oil)
2 heaped tbsp cocoa powder
a few squares (approx 40g) of your favourite vegan chocolate, melted.
(I used Green and Blacks cooking choc).
2-3 tbsp maple syrup (to economise, use normal syrup, but flavour
won't be as rich)
1/2 tsp vanilla essence
1-2 banana(s) (depending on size)

Liquidize everything, then pour into an *ice cream maker.

*** If you don't have an ice cream maker, chop the banana into small
chunks and freeze beforehand. When blending everything, do it really
thoroughly to get lots of air in, then pour into a suitable container
and freeze for about 2 hours.
Texture won't be quite as good, but taste will be the same.

Variation - use coconut milk instead of the soya cream.

***Banana and maple syrup***.

I've tried all sorts of flavours in me ice cream maker, but this is
the best
so far.

4 small bananas
250ml carton (1 cup) soya cream
squirt of soya milk
maple syrup and date syrup to taste
a little vanilla essence

So sweet and creamy that it is hard to believe there is no dairy or
refined sugar in it!

It wouldn't be ice 'cream' anymore would it, without the cream?

It was a dark and stormy night in rec.food.cooking. An owl was
howling, the moon was full and in a distance I heard "Michelle Fulton"

If you wish to split hairs you can call it Ice "cream" to indicate
that it's not really cream. However there is many dairy-free
substitutes for dairy-products today, like for instance vegan cheese,
soy milk...etc...

There's many people who wishes to avoid dairy products, whether it be
due to allergy, philosophy, religion or something else entirely - But
that doesn't necessarily mean that they don't like for instance Ice
cream, cheese or other traditional dairy products, and so substitutes
are made, so they can have those things (or at least something which
reminds al to of it) anyway.

Well - It's not a sorbet in any way. It's something which is so much
like ice cream, that you might as well call it vegan ice cream, for
clarification, since it has the exact same function. No need to make a
big deal out of it, really.
