My free time at VOG just came to and end.Being there,I have no questions
as to why I never see anything posted about VOG.
Simply put,VOG is a chat room were you can play BG with people who don't
know how to play well.

The top 100 players are pretty good, (VOG rating above 1900), but the
overall level of play is not too high. Still a fun place with lots of
tournaments, etc. Of course, for first-class opponents, you pretty much
need to stick with GamesGrid and FIBS.... I still have an account at VOG,
but pretty much spend my free time at GamesGrid now.

Did you try VOG2 ? They have some nice feature that forces droppers to
play their next move, when they get back online, even if you are not
online yourself.

That way, you never need to worry about begging to resume or
threatening you'll call a sysop. Fair playground at last!

I've used VOG2, but it's been annoying how many times you have to install
the next upgrade. I've probably had to install at least 10 different
versions since its release. Can't fathom why I have to watch the dice
'shake' each time, either. A real waste of time. The play out the dropped
match thing is OK, but rather annoying also. I prefer the Snowie resolution
system that GamesGrid uses. Good effort in creating VOG2. Wonder when they
are going to transfer all the activity and ratings from VOG1 to VOG2.

I think the Snowie resolution system is too easy to abuse. All you
have to do is start a match with someone whose rating is lower than
yours, and to drop out as soon as you get a slight lead.

Dont resume and Snowie will give you the win.

At least on VOG2, you get to finish the match with your opponent, and
there is no way to abuse it like on GamesGrid.

I don't think the evaluation gives you an outright win. I don't know for
sure how the system works, but have observed the following.

I started a 5 point match with an opponent. Due to either hardware or
software glitches I was forced to 'drop' even before the first checker
had moved (I was on roll). Once I resolved by technical problems (after
quite a while), my opponent had, quite understandably, gone on to play
someone else. We never met again to resume our match. When the Automatic
Match Resolution kicked in, it gave both of us a share of the match and
the adjustments it made to my rating was in the 2nd decimal place.

Neither of us was declared 'victor' even though had it played a game (or
many), someone must have won. I would guess it divvy's up the rating
points depending on its mwc calculations (however they are done).

This leads me to believe (though I'm not sure of this) that If someone
were to start a match against a lower ranked player and dropped once they
had a slight lead, as you suggested, he/she would receive a very small
benefit. I believe that person would be better off going ahead and
finishing the match! The number of bogus games you would drop to gain any
real benefit doing this would backfire once your opponents see you have a
large number of unfinished matches.

I like the GamesGrid system, but have no problem with VOG's either. Let's
just say they are both good game sites.

What if your opponent never logged in again under the same nickname? How
does that work on VOG?

snowie give only percents of win, if you have 55% match winning
chances, u will reveive 5% of total win

You are incorrect.

You don't get the win, you only get a rating adjustment based on the Match
Winning Chance of the position and match score. Assuming after a single
move you still have 50% chance to win, then against a same rated player you
would earn no points. Against a much higher rated player you could go up 2
or 3 points, but it would be a long and tedious process to do any rating
boosting using this method. Also, the large number of unfinished matches
that would show on someone trying to angle the system this way would deter
anyone from playing them. The third feature, especially at GamesGrid, is
that high rated players seldom play pick-up matches with players drastically
lower than themselves. Mostly people play others near their rating, not
300-400 points below. I'm rated about 1780, and do not accept matches with
anyone below 1600, unless it is part of a league or tournament.

The fact remains that dropping is NOT a problem at GamesGrid, and Automatic
Match Resolution is one big reason why. Also, there is no evidence that
ANYONE has attempted to angle the system in the way you describe.

One question:
if u have 100 % match winning chances, u will receive 50% of a total win?

i think would be more correct:
pts to receive = (match winn. chances - 50%) * 2

yeah, my mistake, i noted only after the post
must be difference between winnig chances: 55% -45 % = 10%

One nice thing about VOG is that every month they award $300 in prize money for
the winner of the TOC (Tournament of Champions) You qualify by winning one of
the daily tournies. No entry fees...with prize money...rather unusual.
