I've heard just the opposite - that Schindler has been speaking
of extending Apple-branded products on the Internet. I think
eWorld may evolve to a more open environment, but I doubt that
Apple will drop it in the near future.

News of eWorld's death have been greatly exaggerated. Some of the trade
magazines have been reporting that Apple is planning on cancelling eWorld
all together.
Recently, eWorld's VP and GM, Peter Friedman, sent a letter to MacWeek,
which was published in the 10/30 edition (pp 27). In it, he indicated that
in line with Apple's goals, eWorld is going to be redirecting itself
towards "more Internet content and technology." He also indicated that
eWorld will continue to develop better interface designs. He closed the
letter by reiterating that presently, eWorld is the nation's fourth
largest commercial online service, and is still adding more users than any
other time in its (albeit short) history.
So take heart. It looks like eWorld is in capable hands and is heading
towards a bright future.

More distortions of the press. Apple is fully committed to expanding
eWorld. It is being repositioned to offer much more internet content
alongside the eWorld only stuff. This is a really smart move that adds a
lot of value to the service.
There are NO plans for Apple to shut down eWorld. The are NO plans for
Apple to ditch the Newton. Apple is committed to both of these
technologies.

This IS NOT HAPPENING. Period. eWorld is going off in a different
direction (much more Internet-related content), but it is NOT being shut
down. NewtonMail is alive and well.
