I recently had to format my C: for Windows 98 and now I lost my LILO OS
startup for Redhat 6.0. Is there any way to get this back without having to
reinstall Linux? TIA!

If you still have the install disks, youi can choose the 'upgrade' option and
re-install LILO. I don't know about redhat, but it works with suse.

Get your linux boot disk (you DID make one, right?), and boot up linux, and
reinstall it from there, I think you have to use the "-s" option to put it
back in the MBR.

Use the rescue disk you made when you installed, mount the / directory
and type lilo as root.

use the boot disk you made during the install and then "lilo

If you made no boot disk use the cd or floppy/cd to get somewhat into
the install. Somewhere ther should be a rescue mode..

Once you are back in linux rerun lilo.

If you did not create a Linux boot disk then you can do the foloowing:
1) Copy the /dosutils directtory on from the Linux CD to your hard
disk
2) Shut down to DOS
3) Edit /dosutils/autoboot.bat Remove the init= option and ensure that
the root= option points to the correct device
4) Run autoboot.bat and on the prompt type 'linux 1'
5) Run lilo when linux has been booted
6) Reboot

don't use any rescue or boot disk and don't reinstall linux !!!

1. boot on your redhat install Cd.
2. choose upgrade
3. the install program will check for available packages to upgrade.
4. after that, press alt-f2, you will have a terminal
5. on that terminal, you can see your linux partition in /mnt
6. type lilo -r /mnt
reboot and lilo will be back !

Boot either the redhat cd or the floppy disk.

Then at the Boot: prompt type the following:

boot: linux initrd= root=/dev/XXX

where XXX is the device and partition where you installed redhat (eg /dev/hda3 )

Once the system is booted rerun lilo as root by typing /sbin/lilo

Have fun.
