Sire FC WATERMARK'S THE BOSS(FC-AFC Wilderness Harley To Go X FC Tank
'Em By Surprise)
is this the name of one dog?

DAm: HR TRAVIS' MISS ELLIE TREY (FC-AFC Chena River Chavez XHR BJ's
And Ace's Miss Ellie Too)
and this the other?.. or do I just not know how to read this... and
can I look up important info on these animals?

No, it's not one dog. The sire is FC WATERMARK'S THE BOSS. His
parents were FC-AFC Wilderness Harley To Go and FC Tank 'Em By
Surprise. Read the same way for the dam.

As it should--it's a VERY unusually good one!

Yes. The sire of this litter is an AKC Field Champion (FC) by the
name of Watermark's The Boss. His sire is Wilderness Harley to
Go (the sire's name comes first) and his dam is Tank 'Em By Surprise.
Both of them are also Field Champions with the sire also being
an Amateur Field Champion (AFC).

>DAm: HR TRAVIS' MISS ELLIE TREY (FC-AFC Chena River Chavez XHR BJ's

>and this the other?..

Yes. The mother of this litter is Travis' Miss Ellie Trey. She has
a Hunting Retriever (HR) title from the United Kennel Club (not as
big as the AKC, but also a worthwhile organization).

The long and the short of it is, from the titles it looks like
this is definitely a solid field trial breeding. The ad also says
a lot of other "right" things, like talking about hip and eye
certifications. If you're looking for a Lab, it would definitely
be worthwhile to talk to this person.

>and can I look up important info on these animals?

Absolutely. For color and date of birth, you can go to the AKC
web site: http://www.akc.org/store (you'll have to register as a
user there, but it's instant and it's free).

To check on hip certifications, http://www.offa.org/ofasrch.html

To check on eye certifications, http://http://www.vmdb.org/cerf2.html

Congrats on wanting to become educated about these issues!

much, much better than the "$100, take this pup off my hands" ads....
Very impressive and definitely worth looking into before a purchase!

Thanks for posting this and the questions. Now I have a nice *real*
example to show folks who want to know what a good ad looks like.

Looks like a good breeding. The dogs in () are the parents of the sire & dam.

Question, since as a general rule of thumb, breeders who are responsible and go about their planned
breading with all the proper clearances ect, why would they need to advertise in the paper? I would
think, especially with a lab with field trial awards, would not have any problems coming up with more
than acceptable owners for the pups, probably even before they were born or conceived. Is this a bit
unusual to find a add with such a quality litter in the paper.....does it raise questions?

Sometimes buyers back out at the last minute or a litter is
larger than what was planned hence the need to find homes for the
extra or unclaimed pups.
