Hi VB gurus,

Here is the scenario:

- VB6 already installed on NT4 sp6 machine
- Uninstall VB6
- Reinstall VB5

This machine would now be dedicated to developing VB5 projects.

Would this cause any problems with the DLL's?

Would I inadvertently pick up VB6 DLL's during development that would
cause problems?

Thanks...

Dave

I would have to say "maybe" ... probably not, but still - maybe.

I simply wouldn't take the chance.
If the machine is truly "dedicated" to VB5 development,
then I would start by reinstalling NT4 from scratch.

I agree with Bob... You should wipe the drive and start over. I wouldn't trust any
un-installer to remove all traces of a program (my system32 folder's full of left over
junk). If you must do it without re-installing the OS, uninstall VB6 and make sure you run
RegClean... I'd probably run it, run it again, reboot and run it again just to make sure
all garbage is gone. Then install VB5.

***RegClean Disclaimer***
Note that it's no longer supported by MS (they don't want to hear of any
problems you have with it)... All I can say is... "Works fine here".
There are reports of minor problems involving Win2k with Office2k installed
(VB asks for Office CD when starting) because RegClean removes a required
Office2k registry entry.. but, that doesn't happen often, effects Win2k +
Office2k only (so far) and is easily fixed so... fwiw, I run it both on
(WinXP with OfficeXP @ home) and (Win2k with Office97 @ work) and haven't
had a single RegClean related problem. I've also used it on every other OS.

Here's RegClean in case you don't have it.
