Ever since I upgraded to Media Player 9, I cannot get the
Media Guide and Radio Tuner to work. Both tabs show the
generic screen saying that I am offline. I click
the "connect the player" option and I get an Internet
Explorer Script Error with the following information:
[ An Error has occurred in the script on this page. Line:
1 Char: 1 Error: Object doesn't support this property
or method. Code: 0 URL:
res://wmploc.dll/Offline_MediaGuide.htm Do you want to
continue running scripts on this page? Y/N ]
Whichever I choose, nothing happens. The Player works
fine except for these annoyances. I have searched
everywhere trying to find a solution. I am almost to the
point of uninstalling but I really dont want to; I like
MP9 but I'd like it even more if it worked properly. I
am running Windows XP Home, IE 6, MP9 v.9.00.00.2980, and
a personal firewall(PC-cillin); tried disabling the
firewall and it still did not work. Can someone please
help me?

Thanks

No one ever seems to follow up with confirmation of whether or not they get
this working... please be sure to follow up to the newsgroup with your
results, 'kay?

Per Chris, the trouble-shooting steps are:
1. Go into IE options and make sure active scripting is enabled.
2. Make sure IE is your default browser.
3. Run the network setup wizard (icwconn1.exe) again.
4. In WMP9, click tools -> options -> and under the first tab, enable the
box that says connect to the internet.

Beyond that, my suggestion has been:
===
From what I've heard... under
===
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Policies/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Control
Panel
===
, you have a value entitled "Connwiz Admin Lock". If and only if this is
your computer and not a work computer, delete this value. If its a work
computer, this may have been put there deliberately, and removing it may get
the IT staff very angry with you.

After you've removed that value, restart the computer. Run "icwconn1.exe"
(the Internet Connection Wizard) and reset your connection settings just to
be careful. Then go to
http://www.windowsmedia.com/download
and download and reinstall the player over the top of your current system.

I believe that should fix you up. Not many people post follow-ups, though,
which makes it hard to know. :P

So... what actually worked for you, if anything?

I finally got the media guide and tuner to work. I
received a solution from someone that was having the same
problems. The steps are to:
open your internet explorer...click on the
tools .......then click on options.....go to programs....
on the bottom of the page you will see "internet Explorer
should check to see"...Un check it. then right above it
you will see "Reset Web Settings"..click on it, Then the
box will come up and say "do you want to reset your web
setting to your original internet explorer defaults" and
uncheck your "reset home page if you dont want Internet
explorer as your home page...then you can click on yes.
That is what I did and then the window media player
worked properly again...

I think i spoke too soon..even though the
generic "offline" screen is gone, I cannot get any
streaming audio/video in the media guide and radio tuner
to work. Whenever I click on a link to a video in the
media guide I get an error message saying:

Windows Media Player cannot play any items in this
playlist. For additional information, right-click an item
that cannot be played, and then click error details.

I cannot get any error details. Any further help would be
appreciated.
