this is just a tedium-saver script that does what you can do manually.
either just use the script, or do this:
untar volume 1
note the last file extracted from volume 1
mv filename filename.fragment
untar volume 2
after untarring volume 2 look and see if there is a new <filename from
above>
if there is:
cat filename >> filename.fragment
then, (whether you need to do above step or not)
mv filename.fragment filename
then note the last file extracted from volume 2
mv filename filename.fragment
same as you did for volume 1 but this time using the last file from
volume 2
untar volume 3
repeat steps above under "untar volume 2"
it's simple but tedious as hell
the script just automates the above procedure
it prompts you for volumes and the prompts are very terse but they are
complete, just pay attention. when you get to the last volume, you
just hit Enter without putting in the next floppy and that signals the
script to cap off the procedure. You can always just re-run the script
from the start if you think you might have lost count or skipped a
volume or extracted a volume twice or flubbed the final step.
