We could start by not ripping on other surfers regardless of their
gateway. Talk about localism! Can we cut the AOLers a little slack. I'd
bet the AOL surfers rip as hard or harder than the rest of us! What do
you think: better/easier GUI = better surfer?

One reason this place may not be as cool is the hostility that folks may
have to endure. Relax and go for a surf.

Haven't seen your name on too many postings, Brad. Where are
YOUR cool surf stories and stokin' good reports? If you're going to
remain passive and not contribute, don't bitch when things aren't to
your liking.
I agree that there are some problems, but nothing's perfect :) .
If you want the flow of negativity stopped, maybe you should start in your
own backyard with this pathetic AOL prejudice of yours..
Bye!

Whoa, AOLers may not have tax dollars subisdizing their Net
access, but that doesn't mean all of them are buttwipes.

Unfortunately, there really are some surfers out there who fit the
stereotype held by many non-surfers - brainless, ALWAYS drug-fuddled,
and with an attitude problem. It only takes a few to perpetuate the
myth. Most of 'em wouldn't understand the words I just used. I find
them occasionally in the lineup, or on the beach or at the
campground. Conversation is ummmm... predictable? Most of them
grow out of it. Just ignore them as you would any rambunctious
child.

Very well said. The "it only takes a few to perpetuate the myth" was spot
on.

There are posts which are intended to flame the whole group and and then
mega insults in response to someone's particular post.

The flames to the whole group should obviously be ignored. Why put fuel on
the fire?

If you post something and get a mega insult reply with nothing
constructive, don't bother with it. It's obviously easy for someone to be
a flake in cyberspace. He doesn't have to come face to face with you.

98% of the surfers I have met or known are totally cool. Ignore the 2 per
centers.

Here's a thought for feedback. Does anyone know someone thats a total jerk
that actually loves surfing and can do it well?

Latez,

Surff

Rob hi =)

I think the original post was just highlighting the fact that the mojority
of alt.whatever SUCKS! is usually AOLers........usually (IMHO)
personally I don't know why, but it does seem to be that way......and there
also seems to be some hatred for AOLers.......but then that's a discussion
for another place ;)

Personally I have noticed a lull here in alt.surfing, but I put it down to
a set about to come through ;).......summit else I noticed was that
throughout the Usenet world, there seems to be a massive increase in
alt.whatever SUCKS!!!!!!!!

Reckon it'll pass.........

what's that I see on the horizon??.......start PADDELIN gang!

You've obviously not met the resident burnout at Rincon. Last time
I saw him there, he was talking about "holes in the sky" and how
he'd "just landed"... I don't think he got together more than 3
sentences that formed a coherent thought.

Anyways, I calmed down Brad (the original poster) by mailing him
a couple of Fang's latest and greatest posts. He's just upset
'cause it's been sooo flat here. SW swell? Huh?

Been eating pancakes for a week...

Yeah, I had a friend who could pull airs whenever he felt like itt
drop in swithch-stance on triple overhead waves, etc. etc. God's gift
to surfing....trouble was, everyone told him how great he was (,which
was what made him such a dick).
He ended up with all the chicks, too.
Fucker.

Of course they aren't! I don't think Brad meant to say that _all_ AOLers
are buttwipes, but their crippled newsreading software certainly puts them at
a disadvantage when posting to the Usenet, and they are responsible for a
great deal of the "non-standard", netiquette-ignorant posts coming into a lot
of the newsgroups, not just this one. Read alt.aol-sucks for some of the far
more extreme reactions to their faux pas from other netizens.

The new wave of Usenet kooks are descending from all kinds of sources now-
Compuserve, Prodigy, etc., not just AOL, and it will only get worse. Personal
responsibility for one's actions is once again the only answer. As someone
who has an AOL account as well as this tax dollar "subsidized" account, I can
tell you that there is no substitute for RTFM! Good posts can come from any
source if you are not too lazy to learn how.
