Episode IV: A New Hope
01. The Imperial March has been added to Darth Vader's first appearance on
Princess Leia's ship.
02. When Obi-Wan is talking to Luke about his father Anakin's Theme plays
in the background and then it turns into the Imperial March as he talks
about Vader.
03. The lightsaber effects have been redone and the frame jumps of
lightsabers being turned on has been removed.
04. There's a new scene which has been shot during the filming of Episode
III in which the Emperor dissolves the Senate.
05. In the Cantina, the Duros(green aliens guys) have been replaced with
Neimoidians and some aliens from the prequels have been added.
06. The bleeding arm on the floor in the Cantina has been replaced with a
non-bleeding arm because it's now canon that lightsabers cauterize wounds.
07. The original shooting scene between Han and Greedo has been restored.
08. Jabba the Hutt has been given a makeover and Han no longer steps on his
tale.
09. In place of R2 wobbling down the stairs to the Falcon's hangar, a CG R2
navigating the stairs like he does in Attack of the Clones was added.
10. The white boxes around space ships have been removed and new CG shots
have been added.
11. The scene of the Falcon being chased by the two Star Destroyers was
modified. The Falcon now does spinning moves, avoiding the Star Destroyers'
fire.
12. When the Death Star destroys Alderaan there's a new scene of Yoda's
reaction to the disturbance in the Force that is created by all those
deaths and then it cuts to Obi-Wan reacting to it as well.
13. The Dianoga has gotten a CG makeover and were are now able to see more
of the creature.
14. The Death Star's paneling and computers have been slightly altered to
show similar displays to those in the prequels.
15. The words "Tractor Beam" with Aurebesh lettering.
16. More stormtroopers have been added to the Death Star.
17. Temuera Morrison's voice is being recorded for use with all the
stormtroopers.
18. The Obi-Wan/Vader duel has been spruced up. It is much more epic and
there is much more movement. A modified version of Duel of the Fates is
being considered for the scene.
19. The Death Star plans that are taken from R2 have been updated. When the
Rebels are reviewing the Death Star plans they look similar to the plans we
see in Attack of the Clones.
20. The Death Star battle is much more epic with more Tie Fighters and more
Rebels being blown to bits. We get to see old Naboo starfighters being used
by the Rebels.
21. There's a new scene(shot during Episode III) where Darth Vader goes to
Coruscant and lands his ship in the same building Count Dooku does at the
end of Attack of the Clones. Except now the building is all fixed up and it
is now Palpatine's palace. He meets with Palpatine to ask for forgiveness
for his failure and inform him of a new potential who is strong in the
Force.
22. Chewbacca now gets a medal.
Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
01. The taun-tauns are now CG.
02. The battle of Hoth is much more epic. We see the Imperial ships land on
Hoth and release AT-ATs. The AT-ATs have been sped up a bit. There's a
ground battle between the Rebel soldiers and stormtroopers featuring new
ships and vehicles.
03. Temuera Morrison's voice is being recorded for the older Boba Fett and
all the stormtroopers.
04. The white boxes around space ships have been removed.
05. The slug monster is CG.
06. Ian McDiarmid has refilmed scenes as the Emperor. The conversations
between Vader and Palpatine is now longer and features a few connections to
the prequels.
07. Yoda's face is now animated in CG allowing more _expression of emotions
yet his movements remain the same. Also two deleted scenes featuring Yoda
instructing Luke have been restored.
08. A new scene was shot in which the stormtroopers, after they capture
Han, Leia and Chewie, bring Vader the box containing C-3PO in pieces. Vader
orders the stormtroopers to bring the broken droid to Chewbacca's cell so
that he can fix him.
09. The lightsaber effects have been redone in certain parts.
10. Luke's fall from Cloud City has been reshot against bluescreen using a
stuntman.
Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
01. Jabba the Hutt is now a combination of the puppet and CG.
02. The Rancor is CG and looks disgusting as ever.
03. Yoda is CG. Yoda disappears leaving his clothes behind like Obi-Wan
now.
04. The ewoks are now mostly CG and there are a lot more of them.
05. The plan is to insert the love theme Across the Stars when Luke is
talking with Leia about their mother.
06. Temuera Morrison's like before is now the voice for Boba Fett and all
the stormtroopers.
07. In the battle of Endor there are thousands of Ewoks and they are more
vicious than there midgets-in-suits counterparts. More bite the dust now.
08. White boxes around ships removed.
09. The black blotches around Palpatine's face are gone.
10. Some of the lightsaber effects have been
redone. The shadows that the lightsabers made on the floor are gone.
11. During Anakin's death scene it starts with a sad rendition of the
Imperial March and slowly evolves into Anakin's Theme.
12. Sebastion Shaw who played Anakin when he was unmasked has been replaced
with Hayden Christenson in make-up to make him look older. Anakin has much
more dialogue. He apologizes for the destruction he caused, he thanks his
son for turning him back to the light, he tells his son to rebuild the Jedi
and he says he loves him and his sister. Just before he dies he says, "It
is finished...".
13. We see more planets celebrating at the end of the movie. We see an aged
Jar Jar, who is now the leader of the Gungans, on Naboo celebrating with
the people of Naboo and the Gungans. We see an old Watto, who is now unable
to fly, sitting in a hover chair cheering on Tatooine. During these scenes
Across the Stars plays transitioning to the victory celebration music at
the Ewok tree village.
14. Anakin's spirit is now played by Hayden Christenson with make-up to
make him look his age. He looks on proudly at his son Luke with the spirit
of Padme by his side.
Alex
OMG! This, if done to world class standard, it could be really good. Lucas
has had his fair share of dodgy CG from ILM(!?), it's true, but they may
have learned from their mistakes. I'm a bit put off that Lucas is replacing
the voices for the stormtroopers and Boba Fett with Temura Morrisons voice.
I feel that's very disrespecful to the original actors. This also goes for
Iain McDairmid replacing 'Empire's' Emperor and Hayden Christiansen
replacing 'Jedi's' Darth Vader, but I can see why both things were done.
Great news on Han's dubious reputation being restored in the greedo fight. I
hope Lucas relents and includes the original, un-altered SW IV, V, VI on the
DVD's. Pity about a further appearance of Jarjar. As for 'vicious Ewoks';
YAY!!! :o))
One more thing George: We want more Jek Porkins!!!

Um Alex, can I steal your post for another group?

If Lucas wants to make Episodes I-VI a complete, consistent package then he
has to do these things, I suppose.

"I laugh in the face of danger"
"Then I hide until it goes away"
This and a lot of the changes are there to turn Episodes I through VI in to
a consistent package, rather than Episodes I-III being merely afterthought
prequels to Episodes IV-VI.

A lot of the Death Star sequence in the Special Edition version of Episode
IV was CGI and that looked great.

Yes, but as I said on UMTSS Lucas can hardly say that the Stormtroopers are
clones and then say oooops, no they aren't.

I doubt it, the only similarity I can see is the use of a stuntman with
Alec Guiness' face added on digitally which is what they did with
Christopher Lee in Episode II. They won't do a full CGI job.

See UMTSS - Dave mentioned that when he first saw it (he was six) he didn't
understand where Vader went. It's pointless trying to make Vader's fate a
mystery when his picture is on the sleeve of the DVD sitting on the couch

Perhaps an early sign that Vader is turning back towards the Light Side ? I
mean he goes from trying to force Luke over to the Dark Side to chucking
the Emperor down a shaft in the space of about ten seconds.

Not for me - after all Lucas has hardly gone around replacing people
randomly. He has stuck with the likes of Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels,
Kenny Baker and Frank Oz for the prequels when he didn't really *need* to
(especially Mayhew and Baker who are just guys in suits, no-one would know
the difference). He even brought back Femi Taylor (the dancer Oola in RotJ)
when he needed to do some reshoots for the Special Edition over a decade
after she originally played the part.
He is just making things consistent so that when when you sit down and
watch Episodes I through VI you don't wonder why the Emperor looks
completely different in The Empire Strikes Back.

Same here. It seems very disrespectful, but as has been stated before,
George Lucas really doesn't care what we think, (exept with the possible
exception of the Greedo-shoots-first thing).

Just to change my viewpoint slightly:
As Alex has correctly pointed out, Lucas needs to make the releases
consistent. It's a shame that the original actors are being discarded, but
it is necesarry. One more thing; Jeremy Bullock didn't voice Boba Fett did
he? Wasn't just a guy in a suit ala Prowse as Vader?
Syn
Agreed.

Apparently, the Expanded Universe suggests that the clones had flaws which
sent them all mad, but that is never referred to in the films.

He is put in a cell with Han, I think. This is when he puts Threepio's head
on backwards, and then carries him around in a backpack until they escape.

As I said elsewhere, he doesn't just do these things randomly. He has
called back actors (such as Kenny Baker and Peter Mayhew) who he didn't
really need to.
Alex
I am not sure about this. Jeremy Bulloch was definitely the body, but AFAIK
the voice actor was not credited in the original release, just as James
Earl Jones was not credited as the voice of Vader until the Special
Editions came out.

Ah, I've never read any of the comics or books. Well, that's a lie really. I
read one that had a giant female wookie like thing fall in love with Chewie
(she was like 60ft tall or something!). And one that had Boba Fett as a good
guy on the side of the rebellion and he was white with blond hair LOL.

Yep, but chewie found him in bits and had to fight with the Uganaughts to
get the parts back. Did he do this while he was supposed to be locked up. My
memory is a little weak here as I haven't seen ESB in about 3 years.

It certainly wasn't the case in any of the (admittedly non-canon) books ,
and there were size differences between the troopers.
Plus when the first film was made, the clone wars were portrayed as being
over and done with a long time ago.

I can't remember the exact sequence of events. IIRC, Threepio gets
seperated from the rest of the group, wanders in to the machine shop where
he meets another Protocol Droid ("Intruder!" "How rude!") and then gets
blown to pieces. Chewie hears this, but sticks with the Leia, Han and
Lando. Later, they are in their nice apartment room where Lando is flirting
with Leia when Han says that no-one has seen Threepio since they arrived.
Chewie goes looking for him and finds his head.
Now, this is what I *think* happens. Chewie finds the rest of the parts and
takes them back to the apartment, but he doesn't have time to put them back
together. He then goes with Leia, Han and Lando to the conference room
where they are captured by Vader. In the meantime, Vader's guards search
the apartment and find Threepio. For some reason they take Threepio to
Vader and then Vader recognises him, and some shred of what's left of
Anakin inside him decides to send the parts to Chewie so he can be
repaired.

I knew about Ratzenberger, he's clearly visible. As for John Hollis, by
Lando's Aide does that mean the bald guy with the computer attached to his
head ?
Alex
Giant wookies, or goody Fett?
Ah! It's all coming back to me now. Thanks Alex. :)

I'd forgotten about that, LOL! :)

I'm assuming they mean Lobot, yes the bald guy. He's permanently wired into
the city's main computer and can control things city-wide. Apparently his
back story is that he was a criminal who, as punishment, had his brain taken
over by an AI (the thing on his head).

As I say, the second paragraph is me retconning the new scene in to the
actual continuity.
James Earl Jones is providing the voice of Vader for Episode III so he
would have been around to do the new scene if needed.
Alex
Well it came in handy, Lando subtly tells him to get the guards when he
releases Leia and Chewie so they can go after Boba Fett.
Alex

Excellent! I was worried they were going to get a soundalike as James Earl
Jones has been in poor health recently. Hope he's fit now.
Syn
It was either a matter of him doing the voice, or them not including it at
all. No-one else can do Vader on screen, the computer games are different
as nobody is all that bothered.
I expect he got more than the $7,000 he got for the original Star Wars,
though. :-)
Alex
I suppose.

The canon books (everything after Heir to the Empire) establish that
while the original troopers were clones, there was agenetic flaw which
led to the establishment of the Imperial Academy to train and develop
non-clone troopers
One of those Academy cadets has been established conclusively as a
Correlian known as Han Solo who left the academy under mysterious
circumstances after an incident on Kashyyk involving a the escape of a
Wookie slave
The Timothy Zahn books went into a fair amount of detail about the problems
of cloning , in particular the problems with clones going mad if grown too
fast.

I thought Han was training to be an officer in the fleet rather than just a
trooper?

Which is why I like the explanation given later for why the clone
troops never worked

AFAIK, the academy trained both so you're probably right, but I
definitely remember Storm-Trooper trainees in the Corellian Trilogy
What are the chances of them pushing up the release date to
say............tomorrow? =)
