Well, I don't think Paul will mind me telling you
that he has enough on his hands at the moment
without trying to follow the newsgroups. He has
this little magazine thing to take care of, and
there are rather a large number of subscription
renewals to process at the moment. :-)
Needless to say, Archive will not be deserting the
Acorn market. In fact, Acorn's decision merely
strengthens Archive's role.
Ever since the Interim Results were published last
month, some of Archive's regular contributors have
been discussing how the magazine can better
support the Acorn community. If you would like to
join in this discussion, you are welcome to join
the Archive-on-line mailing list. Simply send an
email to <Archive...@argonet.co.uk> with the
Subject "SIGNON archive-on-line".
You may also like to know that Archive is
currently running a trial offer - visit the
Archive Website to find out more.

I subscribed on 20th September but have not yet had any mail. Have I done
something wrong or is there just an (understandable) backlog adding people
to the mailing list?

He's presumably in a room somewhere kicking himself a bit for
sending out postcards to god knows how many people saying that they
could get 500quid off a Phoebe just two days _after_ it was announced
to have been cancelled. ;-(

You are subscribed OK Rob, Pluto is adding folk to the list automatically
when the sign on is correct - like yours. However the response has been so
great that Antsuite's 70 something file limit on the out box has been
overwhelmed and not everyone has been sent the automatic acknowledgement.
Traffic is starting to flow, though it will take me a little while to
check the list and sent the addresses to Paul for the trial offer.
My apologies for any start up gliches, so far three addresses have
been bounced, two I've sorted, one to go.
Regards
Keith Johnson

I hope I didn't upset too many people with that. :-(
I sent out 1300 postcards on the Tuesday and they started
landing on doormats on the Thursday that the announcement
was made.
It was sent out in good faith. I was really excited by
what I thought was the good sense that Acorn had in
dropping the price (I was convinced they would also
*keep* the price down once they had got things going).
Apologies to the 300 people who responded positively,
and if anyone now wants to unsubscribe, I'll give them
a refund, but the postcards were sent out in good faith,
honest.
Well, you only have to look at the editorial in
the issue of Archive that went out on that same Tuesday
in which I said basically... "Will Phoebe fly, or will
she fall in a pile of pooh... (evidence)... Yes, Phoebe
will fly!" That too started landing on UK doormats on
Black Thursday! Ironic or what?!
Cheers, Paul

I am sure that when we can look back on the last few months of 1998 we
will be able to highlight a few parallels between the Acorn market and
many stories within the bible.
Not least to all those like myself, whose heart and spirit sank on that
sad Thursday; to those who are beginning to doubt as to why they ever
decided to use an Acorn; to those who clamour the newsgroups with
speculation and questions as to what is happening and when will it all
be decided.
As Jesus said - if you have faith then you can move a mountain.
Sometimes you just have to learn the hard way what having faith really
demands of you.
Are we up to the challenge?
My best wishes go to all those fighting for people in the Acorn family.

Please be so selective in your quotation of me.
The full quotation is, 'troll, troll, troll, troll.' OK? ;-)
FWIW, I share your scepticism about God being at work in the events of
Black Thursday; a theory which depends on what the former Bishop of
Durham called a 'laser-beam' God. The kind who always makes sure there's
a parking place in busy cities for good Xians doing the Lord's work. No
wonder I can never find one.

One man's moving mountain is another man's motorway extension

Rebuke accepted. However, I think that to consider the original
sentence "ridiculous" is a little OTT. We are all entitled to our
beliefs and opinions.
My intention was only to point out that here, as in everything, there
are two viewpoints, and rampant cohorts of faith-movers may not be in
everybody's best interests. My apologies if I have dug this hole
larger, rather than having laid aside my shovel :-)
We are also entitled to view the beliefs and opinions of others as
being ridiculous if this is how they appear...
Cheers,

Welcome to a world of hate
Which is why we seem to get so many PCers showing up here and taking the
piss out of poor, misguided, ridiculous Acorn users!
And, of course, they are perfectly entitled to do so - even though they
are wrong.
