I know we all love them here anyway but i really have to recommend them
again to anyone who hasn't had the pleasure of dealing with them. Fantastic
prices, unmatched reliability and superb speed with delivery.

Placed an order for some Hybrid Slinky Stainless Steel Ernie Balls yesterday
at about 4:00PM- they were wedged in my letterbox first thing this morning.
Bearing in mind that's with the standard bog-standard first-class delivery,
it's truly remarkable.

A model online retailer, without doubt!

My classical strings and strap were awaiting me on the doormat at 7.20am -
order placed around lunchtime yesterday. I'm starting to conclude that Tony
has some blackmail material on Royal Mail, since I've never yet NOT had stuff
next day, even ordered late afternoon :)

Yeh, I reckon Stringsdirect are really just a front for the
Royal Mail, and our favourite packs of six of the best are
just their loss leader ;-))

Got my Steinberger strings to me promptly as well. Ordered 10sets, sent 6
(what they had) immediately, closely followed by the other 4

Great service. Most would have waited until all 10 were in stock

There is a theory called the 'Ravings Fans' theory of customer support, which
basically says that the best and worst publicity comes from your own
customers - if people are unhappy, they will say so in no uncertain terms,
but to get people to be nice about you, you need to go that little bit extra
to create 'raving fans'.

Marshall do it - I once bought a second hand JFX-1 effects unit from my local
music shop, and asked, more in hope than expectation, "Is there a manual for
it?". Guy behind counter phoned Marshall, talked for about thirty seconds and
handed me the phone: lady on the phone asked for delivery address, and a
manual arrived in the post the following morning. No charge, despite the fact
they were going to make NOTHING from the sale of a second hand rackmount
effect they'd discontinued a year or two ago. Except a happy customer, who
retells this story when ever the topic of Marshall comes up. Trev Ridney,
IIRC, has similar stories about Marshall customer support.

I'm happy to say that StringsDirect seem to have got this right, too. Like
many other folks on here, I'll plug them any chance I get.

It's ok, Tony, you can stop blushing now :)

Stringsdirect are very good. Only wish they stocked Newtone Djangos.

And also, isn't this a paeon for our very own Royal Mail? As Tony
says, they are only as good as the post and the post is really coming
up trumps, despite their apparent economic misery.

Absolutely so, yes. I remember reading an interview with somebody at the
top of Amazon UK fairly recently in the Grauniad (don't think it was
Bezos himself, but could be wrong), and he was saying that they felt one
of the reasons Amazon had done so well hear was the reasonable pricing
and excellent service of the institution formerly known as Consignia.

The fact that this institution is regularly described as "failing" and
"in crisis" because, while making its customers happy, it isn't making
money, seems to me an apt comment on the priorities of the people running
this country (and its media).

Indeed. I too have been pleasantly surprised to find that I can
realistically offer a next-day delivery of mail-order CDs via the Post
Office (or whatever it's called now). It's quite impressive being able to
drop a bunch of jiffy bags into a mailbox before 5:30pm, and to know they'll
be in the customers' hands the following breakfasttime.

(Goodness: was that a cunningly-disguised plug for fivetrees? Surely not?)

Sounds like a lot of you folks are getting a much better service out of
the Royal Mail than I'm expiriencing. I don't know if it's just the lack
of infrastructure up here in Scotland, but if I send anything to my
sister in Aberdeen (from Glasgow) it takes 2-3 days. Same if it's coming
to me from up north.

Plus my bank statements always seem to disapear after the bank have
posted them.

Plus I've had parcells delivered to me which have been opened and
emptied.

At least special delivery works well.

Interesting. The one time we had a slow delivery that I know about (we send
everything 1st class or airmail) was to Scotland (a Clive Murray CD, IIRC).
In fact, a CD we sent to the States at the same time got to its destination
first.

wow, this is amazing. We all agree and we appear to have something
that by and large works successfully. Interestingly,I always find the
USPS absolute crap. The guy in the post office tells me (and he may be
making it up) that most of the huge delivery time in surface mail (3
months anyone?) is taken up as the parcel is driven by snail caravan
across the US by a team of irate USPS express riders, and not by the
ship at all.

That seems pretty plausible, since I just had a guitar shipped surface[0]
from Canada which took a little over four weeks.

Just ordered a fistful of Master Class (and it's cheaper than buying
them direct from Malcolm Newton!).

Any plans to stock the Newtone Michael Messer reso strings? I
don't need any just now (just bought a few sets from the London

Strings, straplocks, etc. ordered yesterday afternoon and delivered here in
the midst of darkest Wales this very morning.
Absolutely splendiferous service, folks - and good prices too!
