A survey by the American Foundation for
Urologic Disease found that only 15% of
those who responded had heard of
prostatitis and that more women than men
know about the condition, according to a
segment on "Good Morning America."
Because symptoms may be severe or
nonexistent, the NIDDK-funded Chronic
Prostatitis Collaborative Research Network
has developed the NIH Chronic Prostatitis
Symptom Index, which patients can use to
find out if they have symptoms for the
condition. The index can be found at
www.prostatits.rg/symptomindex.html.
Information on the condition, including
types of prostatitis, causes, and treatments
is available for patients and physicians at:
