Steering Group to hold meeting ref RISCOS 4

The Steering Committee are pleased to announce that progress has been
made towards attaining some of the goals set out at the original
Cambridge meeting on 25th September 1998.
Despite the apparent lack of progress following the announcement that
the Steering Group was stepping back from negotiations with Acorn, a lot
of effort has been put in to plan for the possible alternatives to the
outcome of the negotiations between Acorn and Dutch company.
A meeting was held between the committee and Acorn on Wednesday 25th
November at which Acorn outlined the current position with respect to
the Dutch company and other related negotiations.
As a result of the information provided by Acorn during the meeting a
proposal, which had been drafted by Paul Middleton, was presented to
Acorn and after a short period of discussion was agreed to be a sound
basis for further detailed negotiations.
This proposal centres around the establishment of a new company to
market, license and develop Risc OS 4. It regrettably does not involve the
resurrection of Phoebe Risc PC 2.
A meeting will be held in Stratford Upon Avon on Sunday 6th December
at 11.00 am which is open to any interested parties to attend, but in
order to ensure that only companies and individuals who are serious
about the future of Risc OS, and possibly investing in the new company,
attend there will be a 100ukp fee to go towards the costs incurred
by the committee to date.
Details of the venue will be made available upon receipt of the
100ukp fee.
The fee is non-refundable and is not a share subscription for the new
company, but should the plans proceed to completion it will be the
intention of the new company to recognise the support given by people
and companies by way of free software.
