How many capital ships did Earth field at the Battle of the Line? This is
for a debate elsewhere. Some people say 1000 ships including fighters, some
say that is including fighters, shuttles hasty conversion etc?

I've basically rounded it out to a shitload.

i'm not in "much", neither is JMS, and judging by your email address, neither
are you(north dakota state? or did i mis-read it?). :-)

and yes, i can use and understand BOTH systems of measurement, which, imho,
makes me better than anyone who only understands one system. <g>

this is why humor is a dying art form, invariable, someone doesn't take it as a
joke, and insists on political correctness.

In much of the world, metric is standard.

Ah, then you must be using Imperial ;-)

Yup, I'm from North Dakota State University.
Not being in much of the world does not imply total unawareness of it.
Sometimes I am in the aforementioned much of the world.
When I drive to Keycon, it's important for me to know that some of
those speed limit signs refer to kilometers per hour.
Driving to Valleycon only requires miles per hour.

A term other than "standard" would have been in order.
"Imperial" perhaps?

"how many centauri does it take to screw in a light bulb?"
"come on man, we all know the centauri, and much of the universe for that
matter, use click-in bulbs! not screw-in ones!"

in other words, it was a joke. i chose "standard", because where *I* am from,
and where the poster i replied to is from, this IS the standard. for everyone
on this group to be in line with the "rest of the world" all the time, we must
compose all posts in all languages that have registered members of this

The previous version of this article had a spelling error.

All of them, I should think.
