Now that Warners has given confirmation that the B5 DVDs are coming in
1-2 years time, do you plan to make room in your schedule to track down
the people responsible and pummel them with a large stick until they
promise to make the best product the budget will allow?
Also, while the re-edited pilot is superior, the old one is still a part
of B5 history. Would you be opposed to having both versions included on DVD?

I have not yet had that confirmed for me by WB, so I'm holding that question in
abeyance until I hear something firm.

Dunno...I'd be inclined to go only with the latter version, if and when a
choice were to be made.

I say an aluminum baseball bat.

Well, the way I figure it, they should be able to fit at least 4 regular 44
minute episodes on each disc, with extras like trailers and all. Since The
Gathering is 90 minutes long, they should have just one disc for it with both
versions available. Also, all DVDs except the Gathering would be in anamorphic
widescreen. I actually have all of the DVD arrangements planned out on paper,
each disc numbered and scheduled, even though I have no power over the
production. I just did it to pass the time, even though it'll just set me up
for disappointment. If anyone's interested in seeing it, just look at my reply
to this messages titled DVD idea. I really gave this some thought.
In case you're wondering, the total number of DVDs by my system is 35, or 38 if
Crusade is also put onto DVD.

I say a 2 by 4. You know what Marcus said. "You can achieve more with a
kind word and a 2 by 4 than just a kind word" :)

How about offering a "Deluxe Collector's Edition" with both versions,
for those of us who actually want both?

I guess I should get one of those teraoptix boxes to move the betamax copy
of the original pilot off to optical media....

>From what I've read regarding such DVD's, the edit points are rather
visible. There is a noticeable wait while the correct branch is
found and read. That might be a function of the DVD player.
Also, IIRC, there are rather a lot of "small" changes. Once JMS was
more confident in his editing skill, he changed a lot of long shots
into near shots or close-ups.
That would make the size of one verions+edits almost the same size
as two separate versions.

This is in fact an excellent argument for putting both versions of the
pilot on a DVD. Then only that disc wouldn't be able to be hyped as
widescreen, because whatever other material you might put with it will
be on some other disc instead.
