Also, if you are anyone else on this board are interested in Dune, the
Museum of Television and Radio will be doing a preview screening of the
full miniseries next week, on November 17. Here are the details:
Frank Herbert's Dune
Friday, November 17, 2000
6:00 to 11:00 p.m.
Reception at intermission.
One of the most loved futuristic novels
comes alive--in all of its intricate detail--in
this epic miniseries. This faithful adaptation
of the literary classic Dune tells of the
adventures of young Paul--"Muad'Dib"
(Alec Newman), heir to the noble Duke
Leto Atreides (William Hurt) and an ancient
prophecy--and his mother (Saskia Reeves).
The prestigious ensemble cast also includes
Matt Keeslar, Ian McNeice, P.H. Moriarty,
Julie Cox, and Italian screen legend
Giancarlo Giannini as the Emperor.
We are grateful to SCI FI Channel for
making this preview possible.
This is a members only screening, of which I am a member of the Museum.
When I made my reservations, they mentioned that they were going to try
and bring in some of the actors, production crew, director, etc. You can
get more info at http://www.mtr.org/ if you really want to pursue this.

I'm looking forward to it making it up to Canada, on the Space station
I imagine.
Herbert's DUNE was the first SF novel I read, so it's something of a
sentimental fav. And enough water's under the bridge since the Lynch
mess, to give another adaption a fair try. :)
I hear Sci-Fi's already given the green light to an adaption of
Herbert's 2nd Dune novel.
Joe, juast curious, but if you weren't way too busy and were
approached, what would be the top 5 novels (classics or recent) that
you would like to adapt into tv miniseries?

I might have said The Lord of the Rings, but someone's working on that
right now.
Personally, I hate the idea of adapting novels to TV or film. My
thoughts are that if the author had wanted his story to be a movie, he
would have written a screenplay. A filmed version just monkeys with
the vision of the book that I saw in my head when I read it.
Unfortunately, there is enough money in it that some authors (I won't
mention names because I don't want Danielle Steele and Michael Crichton
mad at me) have given up writing novels and just publish treatments for
screenplays.

Note: No toads were strangled in the posting of this message.
That'll teach me to gloss over the advertisements on the Sci-Fi channel.
I had thought that they were advertizing a showing of the less than
satisfactory movie made back in the 80's.
I have been searching the sci-fi channel site for the dates and times
that this miniseries is going to be shown to no avail (so far). Do you
have more information on this?
