Hey Joe,

.....Are you FINALLY going to tell us the story of G'Quon's crusade?
One would think with Amazing Stories you could get away with it, since
you said yourself WB had nothing to do with it. :)

-==Kensu==-
Though, to tell you the truth, I think WB would have bought the
episode, if you'd tried to sell it.

"Samuel Beckett, Your Ride is Here" is up now at www.scifi.com/cityofdreams.
It stars John Turturro and Bill Irwin.

"Amazing Stories" is dead. What I wonder about (I posted this query here a
couple of weeks ago, but jms didn't answer it then; maybe he will now) is
whether the story he already penned about Delenn and Valen (the one he
called a "toad-strangler") will ever see the light of day or if the check
was cut and cashed and thus that tale is now legal property of an entity
which no longer exists.

I've been having trouble listening to it. Yesterday Real Player lost the
connection just as the conversation was starting, and today it doesn't
start at all. Anybody else with similar troubles?

It played fine with me, which was fortunate. I think it's the best
episode so far, and one that dealt with issues I've increasingly
frequently found myself thinking about (with increasing urgency).

It made me feel better about a lot of these things by giving new ways
of looking at them. That's amazing for a half-hour segment of drama.

The nature of happiness, the pain that comes when the world seems to
lose its meaning by inches, subjective truth vs. another subjective
truth, finding something to believe in and hold close to your heart...
Are all matters I think about every day, and they are things that
really MATTER to me, that make a difference...

Which is why "Samuel Beckett..." hit very close to home with me.

Delenn and Valen? When was this ever mentioned? I was under the
impression that the "toad-strangler" was "Space, Time and the Incurable Romantic".

Yes, it doesn't work for me either. It seems the took the file off.
Realplayer can't find it.

Jms mentioned it here. It was to be the next story published AFTER the one
with Marcus. He described it as best I recall (too lazy to do a dejanews
search) as being about Delenn at the end of her life following up on one of
Valen's final prophecies and that everyone around her thinks she's gone a
little bonkers. Obviously, those weren't his words, but that was the jist
of the description.

If you just call up realplayer, and enter the location info at the top of this
thread into the window on realplayer, it'll show up.

Spoiler space for Amazing Stories #602, "Space, Time and the Incurable
Romantic"

I read those posts at the time, and have always understand that the "toad
stranger" story was the one (number 3) that subsequently turned out to be
about Marcus and Susan. Remember that Amazing Stories is/was published
quarterly, so May and June both refer to the same issue.

The two posts below (one from dejanews.com and one from my own archives)
make it clear that the third Amazing Stories B5 story (which subsequently
turned out to be about Marcus and Susan) was the "toad strangler", and the
"... first line alone should stun a number of B5 folks" turned out to be
"Much to his own surprise, Marcus Cole breathed deeply"

That one is in Amazing, coming out in June.

AND, from my own archives (some copies of jms's usenet postings) as
dejanews.com doesn't appear to go back very far:

From: Jms at B5 <jms...@aol.com>
Date: Saturday, 15 January 2000 13:10
Newsgroup: rec.arts.sf.tv.babylon5.moderated
Subject: Third AMAZING STORIES Story

The first one was a Londo story because I really wanted to do something
different and cool with the character, go inside his head and show the
transition to being emperor, let folks know that inside he was still the
same
Londo...the second one with Lyta and G'Kar was mainly for fun, to play with
them and see their relationship together out there.

The third, which I just finished and turned in to Amazing Stories, and which
will appear I think around May, was written with one express purpose: to set
the proverbial cat amongst the proverbial pigeons with something that's
going
to send a ripple all through B5 fandom; it's a story I don't think anyone
ever
expected to see.

Just the first line alone should stun a number of B5 folks

And that's all I'm going to say about it. But just know...there's a real
toad-strangler coming up in May.

(And Rising Stars 4 is out now.)

No, that was never mentioned as being one of the Amazing Stories tales...
someone asked about the ultimate fate of the various characters, and I
mentioned that as one of them. Some said it'd be great if that were dealt with
in the story, but that was never one of the planned stories.

Yes, they must have fixed it.
I just finished listening to it, and it was great ! Definetely in a Waiting
for Godot style, but with much more meaning in it. Seems to me the better so
far. I can't wait for the next one...

There seems to be some similarities between the in-between place in this
show and the one in Midnight nation. Was that intentional ?
