Since the announcement that you'd made a deal for the Rising Stars movie
came while this group was down, I want to say congratulations! Do you
have a "wish-list" of actors you'd like to see in RS, or would you
rather see a cast of unknowns?

Thanks...I'm totally open on cast, and the folks doing the producing are
extremely good at it, so we're in good hands.

My own 2 cents is the latter. Personally I think "Hollywood" is making
mistakes casting big names in SF and superhero movies with major
effects. The casts of Star Wars, 2001, Logan's Run, the Star Treks,
B5, and Crusade were established character actors but not household
names.

Unknowns are better, at least in this case. In general, it drives the
actors to put in a better performance, so they get noticed. It makes
the audience focus on the character, instead of anther star viewing.
And practically, they're cheaper. :)

IMO, the story, and it's visualization, should be the star.

IMO, casting the big names in supporting roles is better. Those actors
bring all their qualities to the movie without drawing too much attention
away from the main characters.

Those were the producers of "12 Monkeys" (I loved that film), right?

How soon do you expect info on budget, casting and director will become available?

Yup.

Long whiles yet...I still gotta write the script, and none of that can happen
until we have a screenplay.

I'm not sure if I'm parsing you correctly. I'd always thought script and
screenplay were synonymous. If they are different, could I impose upon you
to explain the difference?

They are the same thing, I was just being specific...TV scripts and movie
scripts are both scripts, but there's teleplay vs. screenplay for specifics.

Yeah, about that... how are you planning to write the script when the comics
storyline is not over yet? Are you thinking in a trilogy or something like
that rather than just one movie?

That would be no problem, since JMS already knows:
A)the total storyline for RS
B)Most likely has it all written already.
C)Knows 1000 years of the past and future of the RS universe.

Well, obviously, I know how it's going to end, and by the time this thing were
to get anywhere NEAR a camera the book would have finished it's run.

Though whether it's all self-contained or a trilogy of films hasn't yet been
decided. We'll probably hash that out over the coming week.

Considering how long development of films takes, I wouldn't consider
this a worry. (Not that JMS doesn't probably have the whole comics
storyline outlined.)
