It reminded me of Susan's final speech at the end of SiL when she said there
can be new beginnings "...even for people like us." >> And <<...but I still
think I missed the point behind the remark.

There was a question in there somewhere...>>

And I have the same question. It's been bugging me since the first time I saw
SIL.

Why "even" and what kind are "people (or folks) like us"? At first it seemed
to refer to the B5 characters as the stereotypical 'misfits and screwups make
good' which, for the most part they *weren't*. Now that I reread your intro to
the scriptwriting book (thanks Arkham!) it seems to refer more to everyday,
normal, ordinary folks.

Is it one of these or something else? I don't usually quibble over one word
but it seems to be an important one word in this case.

Thanks,

Jan

I think it's for everyday people, at least in my case. Ivanova's speech
made me cry for at least an hour after I first heard it because I was
once at a point where I thought there would be no new beginnings for me.
I was very depressed at the time & had to seek help. I did get my new
beginning after all when I made that decision. So to me, it's about
regular people.

It's really both. That flawed people, normal people, can have second chances,
even we may think (rightly or wrongly) that we don't deserve them because we
*are* flawed.

I took it to mean everyone affected by the human--or sentient--condition.
i.e., everybody.
