In light of the recent discussion of jms past exploits, I've uploaded
the intro to JatWW on my iDrive. It's very cool, and just under 12 MB in
the mpeg format. Go to http://www.idrive.com/ and type in "a_blip"
(without quotes) in the "Visit an I-Drive" box. And just for the record,
this isn't my rip - I found it on a web page that is no longer
available, so I figured it would be ok.

BTW - jms, how'd you (and Larry) end up on the show. IIRC neither of you
were in the credits of the first batch of episodes.

We had single writing credits per episode, but not as staffers. We went over
to DIC after leaving Filmation when we weren't given the story editor credits
we had earned by working as story editors.

That reminds me....

Credits are important. We all know that. Agents are as likely to sweat
blood over credits as they are over basic pay, right?

So.......

Howcum WGA, SAG, DGA, IATSE and everybody else aren't up in arms over
the current TV practice of squashing, shrinking (some here in NYC are
now down to a picture-in-picture occupying about 1/9 of the screen) and
otherwise abusing the credits when they're actually shown?

And what is it with practically all non-regulars getting their name in
the front credits, but no clue, either in the on-screen text or
pictorially, as to what role they play? (And why, this being the case,
are anonymous front credits better than labeled end credits.)

I can tell you, from the viewpoint of someone who _isn't_ in the
business, but lives on the periphery (e.g., some friends are going to be
at the upcoming WB pitchfest with a 20-minute
SAG-won't-let-us-call-it-a-pilot that I still can't believe was shot and
postproduced for only $25,000...), it's maddening, and not only because
of the obvious sensation of vandalism.

Is "Chinatown" the only answer, or can at least some sense be made of
it?

A bit odd, since you wrote about one fifth of the series episodes. How
much creative control did the story editors exert over the series?

They could rewrite if they chose to.

We convinced them otherwise.

Didn't Jayce & the Wheeled Warriors have something to do with plants
(vegetation)? It's been awhile since I've seen it.

Yeah, the good guys' vehicles had saws and laser guns made of metal and
the bad guys' vehicles were more or less identical, except that they
were colored black and the weapons were made of vines or something.
Think I still have one or two of the toys gathering dust somewhere.

Monster Minds - evil plants hellbent on universe domination. Jayce had a
medallion, a part of the Root. The other part was in the possession of
his father, and when combined they'd kill all the bad plants. Of course,
since both were made by Jayce's father, one wonders why he didn't just
smack 'em together right on the spot... jms?

It's a pity one rarely see "classic" stuff like this nowadays, certain
writers opinions notwithstanding. I hope that when video on demand
becomes established, the studios start making their otherwise unused
cartoon libraries available.
