While I am at it, any news on the B5 on DVD front?
Thomas.

Vols 1 and 2 (the first four episodes shown, War Zone, The Long Road, The
Well of Forever and The Path of Sorrows) are due for release in the UK on 6
March 2000. Volume 3 ( presumably the next two episodes shown) is due on 10
April 2000. They will be, of course, PAL VHS. I've already re-ordered mine
:-)

Is there a pattern to this? I mean, it seems that the tapes are always
released in the UK first.
Is the UK some kind of test market for media companies? How does this work,
anyway?
Rob
That great for them, but I live in Canada. I wonder why it seems
that the Uk gets everything first. Would have figured that North America
would.
While I'm at it, its quite the treat up here - The Space Channel
play B5 3 times a day - its absolutely wonderful to be able to watch B5's
story play out quickly.
We don't get reruns, unlike you guys, so there's less chance to tape off air
later on if you miss the first run. The market here for pre recorded TV
tapes is *very* lucrative - iirc, Trek tapes can sell up to 50K copies a
month per issue. The DVD market is going like the clappers, too... and as
for cellphones! <g>
Ali
I also understand (someone more knowledgeable please correct me) than Warner
Brothers UK, Warner Brothers Australia and Warner Brothers North America
(?), although obviously part of the same company, are separate business
divisions. WB UK and Australia see and exploit the market for pre-recorded
videos of TV shows, WB US doesn't. After much lobbying by fans, B5 was
released in North America via mail order. It was only when those sales were
higher than expected that it was released in stores.
Hmmm. We tend to get videos first because, (as Ali says), we don't get
much in the way of reruns. We are now half way through the **second**
run[1] on terrestrial tv, shown at one episode per week at +/- 1 am
Monday morning.
Anybody who was ill, on holiday, had aunt Flo visit at an inconvenient
time, only discovered B5 part way through or simply wants to see again
episodes they didn't tape has to buy the videos.
Also Warners here do things to maximise revenue, such as their release
of the TNT movies on video whilst holding back broadcast rights for a
further year.
Whilst Crusade videos are now announced here we still don't know when it
will appear on regular tv. I hope WB don't exercise the above trick
with Crusade, I really don't want to have to wait another year to see
it!

[1] Pedants will note that season 1 has been shown 3 times now and
season 5 was played at a family viewing time with an uncut repeat
shown in the late evening during the succeeding week.

"Still . . . no worries, eh?", said Rincewind, somewhere on the Discworld.
And lets not forget, on DVD too.

Ditto! I'll bring the marshmallows and we can have a toasting party.

If it's not on DVD, it hasn't been released.[1] I just can't wait until
the complete disappearance of prerecorded VHS -- fortunately, that's
scheduled for 1/2003 at the latest.
