Hi and Happy New Year!

I am forwarding this message on behalf of a lady who had tried to
do it herself, but the message always bounced. So I told her I would have
a go at it. Here's hoping I can break the jinx for her.

Dear Joe,

I can't get over how even now, after all these years, whenever I watch the
B5 introduction my hair stands on end and a shiver runs down my spine in
anticipation. The characters are introduced with the wonderful theme music
- how it changed every season, like parts in a symphony. No show has ever
had a better introduction!

Scott Adams thought it was the best ever created for television. He must
have read my mind!

I didn't always feel that way. The first season, it was just a good show.
You got to know the characters. Then they started to grab me, as I watched
them change.

Then we had to go through a periods where every week there was
the hunt through the tv guide to find when B5 was to be shown. To be a
fan, you had to really work! How many weeks was it shown at 11 PM, or even
2 AM, or Saturday morning? I remember how one friday night, I was tired
and went to bed early. I woke up with a start around 2 AM, and realized I
had forgotten to watch the show. I felt a great sense of loss - for a tv
show!

Then there was a period - was it between season two and season three (?),
where I didn't know if the show was going to finish. Then I heard it would start
again toward the end of November. I told myself it was ONLY a tv program! What
did it matter if it never came on again? But it did.

Then I started taping each show. You had to see them more than once to
appreciate them. You had to step through some of the special parts in
slow-motion, like Londo's or Gkar's visions, or the fight scene where they
captured Sheridan, or when he fell through Babylon 5 and was caught by
Kosh and Kosh revealed himself. Wow! I could make a whole Wow list!

So thank you, for creating something very special.

I dunno... I'd put the Neon Genesis Evangelion opener above it, but that's
probably only because I am currently infatuated with the entire show. It is...
amazing.

Under that would be the Crusade opener; it's not quite as cool as Evangelion's,
but it sets up the spirit of the show better (Favorite part: The fact that "Who
do you serve, and who do you trust?" goes unanswered).

Finally, I'd put B5 Season 5's opener under that. The *only* reason that it
loses points is because... well... it's not effective for people new to the
show. 'Course, I could be wrong, but...

My favourite B5 theme, hands down, is the Season 5 opening credits theme.
I disagree that it would not be effective for newbies -- I'd like it even
if it weren't attached to a t.v. show. It begins as a lilting melody then
turns into a stirring march. Just love it!

If there was a single reason to bring B5 into a fifth season, AFAIC, it
was the theme music. Worth the price of admission right there.

You got that right!

I don't know; I joined B5 when it moved to TNT, I was amazed with the S5
opener, and I had only seen part of S1 + In the Beginning. To me, it gave a
real sense of History to the show.

I agree. The theme starts off almost sad and somber and the pieces of
dialogue grab you, especially if you've invested four years (or in my
case, a few months--I get B5 daily) into it, it's very affecting. Then
the music reaches its triumphant climax at "We're here to place
President Clark under arrest" as the Aggy rushes through the explosion.
Just great. Hands down the best title sequence of B5, maybe even
television, with the sequence to "Crime Story" a close second. :) Just
my few cents worth, anyway.

I think we all agree with those words, otherwise we would not be subscribing

I agree with Trek Barnes--I became a fan when B5 moved to TNT also, & I
love the 5th season opening credits. The music is perfect, and the rest
of it gives you a good overview of the whole series. In fact, I watched
the 5th season shows as I was watching the other seasons for the first
time, so whenever a scene I had watched in the 5th season credits came
up in the seasons 1-4 shows, I would think, Oh, I remember that in the
credits! It was an odd experience watching seasons 1-4 every weekday, &
then season 5 once a week, but it was still enjoyable.

I remember the theme music for "Crime Story" but not the imagery. What did
they show? That was my favorite show while it was on the air. My favorites
almost always get cancelled.

"Crime Story" showed shots of Las Vegas, and a few really cool shots of
the characters running around, driving fast and shooting things. Nothing
fancy like the B5 themes of course (hell, not even Buffy The Vampire
Slayer) but with Del Shannon's music it worked so well. Good editing in
the title sequence.

Off topic (as if this isn't going OT already!) a station here in Canada,
Prime, carries Crime Story a few times a year weekly. Bad news is they
fail to show four or five episodes of the series (for some reason there
are eps that they don't show--like they just don't have them or
something) but next time they air it I'm taping anyway.

The Crusade opener wasn't to bad the only thing that I didn't like about
it was the the voice over answers that CaptainGideon - Gary Cole was
giving to Galen - Peter Woodwardquestions. there should have only been
Galen - Peter Woodward part of the voiceover for it. But thats just me.
