Interestingly enough, Galen provides an ancestral link for the modern
compounding pharmacist. Galen developed a number of recipes for the
elaborate manufacture or compounding of medicinals, that, in later years,
were called Galenicals. While the recipes survive, I believe, the products
had limited value. But his efforts to create and his documentation of the
creative process contributed to the modern professional pharmacist.
