TO THE GROUP:
I guess I would classify myself in that group of prostatitis sufferers
who believe they had an infection or an injury for me caused by alot of
mountain bike riding ........(not sure what caused the big increase in
white blood cells in my semen and EPS)
but the perineal, pelvic (sitting) pain still lingers. That
inflammation process that no doctor can fully explain or cure......

I have been through the Manila protocol which failed to cure me. Even
met with Dr. Feliciano in Canada while being treated there who said I
should not be having pain from all the tests, massages and multiple
antibiotics.

Have had 2 MRI's which were inconclusive. One radiologist said I have a
cystic appearing structure at the base of the prostate while a second
radiologist expert at a respected University Hospital said there is
nothing there. What gives???? Who knows....

What can anyone tell me about what they use to help with the pain?
Also, what is the latest info. available on this condition?

I have very recently taken grape seed extract which reduces the
inflamation and subsequent pain by about 50% IMMEDIATELY. It is
sometimes called OPC. It acts on the body by reducing the substances
which cause inflamation. TRY IT ! Quercitin does not help me.

This is the first time I had heard of CPPS. Any info. from fellow
sufferers our there having my same symptoms would greatly be
appreciated. I have had this inflamation/pain for over 2 years.

Jeff

I will try it.

I discovered yesterday something that may be obvious to seasoned regulars.
However this pain started in me, it ended up producing deep interior muscle
cramps, causing excruciating kinks in muscles I never knew where there.
This is why the pain seems to move sometimes on me -- my vas deferens (the
tubes out of your testicles) sometimes seem painfully sore, yet half an
hour later show no problems).

I want to look into the physical therapy/biofeedback mentioned elsewhere on
the group. In the meantime, I was startled to discover that very slow,
gentle (nonsexual) genital message helps a great deal. I lie back and try
to find sore spots, massaging them extremely gently at first. I can feel
odd interior hard spots that should not be there -- that is, there is no
organ or bone where I feel an object -- and appear to go away after
massage. I don't think this is a substitute for physical therapy, but it's
helping.

What type of pain do you have? I have on/off pain in my right testicle and
right appendix area.
The docs seemed to give up on me also. But I havent had an MRI.

In answer to your question:
The pain for me is in and around the prostate or perineal area (no
where else). Just general inflamation that makes it sore to sit !! for
very long. Subsides when I am off my feet and resting.

No - its GRAPE SEED EXTRACT that I am using now. Any extract from
seed is going to have an anti-inflammatory effect.

Grapefruit seed extract is supposedly antimicrobial; grape seed is indeed
touted as an anti-inflammatory agent.

Yes, you are right. I forgot we have a bottle at home and use it to
purify water. Since you mentioned it, I would like to try grapefruit
seed extract as well. Some say they have used it with good results I am
told. Has anyone used either GRAPEFRUIT SEED OR GRAPE SEED EXTRACT with
any benefit? I am taking 100 mg 3 or 4 times daily of GRAPE SEED
extract. Its early yet but it is helping with the discomfort.

It's unfortunate that the URO medical community can only refer us to an
anesthesiologist to get A NEEDLE TO KILL THE PAIN.

Hello,

Did you already had a semen sample gram stained and cultured by a
(good) lab ? It's nothing invasive and can indicate sometimes the
reason (organism) causing the pain.

All the best,

To reply by e-mail: replace "myname" by "gvnuffel" and remove the "remove." part.

Hello Jeff,

I've had a Enterococcus faecalis prostate "and surroundings"-infection
from July '98 to Feb '99. From then on, my outer urethra samples and
semen samples are always clean. (Last lab dates from 20/8).

The only symptoms which didn't go away in Feb '99 were a
stress-related prostate (and somtimes refered penis top pain) and the
"hot feeling" after sitting down for some time.
My WBC count is not elevated any more (in semen checked).
Did any uro (lab) found the organism causing the infection (if it was
one) ?
My prostate isn't sensitive any more when being rectal touched.
I don't feel hard spots.

To reduce to influence of stress, I'm using Omic 0.4 mg (Flomax in the
U.S.). A hot bath helps for the sitting pain.
Regular sex seems to help also.
For the pain when sitting down for some time, soft seets or sitting on
my knees, when doing some typing, like now.....
Think I'm gonna switch to a portable in time -)°

I'm told that "it's damaged from 8 months infection and has to recover
on it's own in time". I hope so. Of course, I can imagine having an
infection on my arm for 8 months, would leave a scar, I guess.

All the best,

Geert
