I just finished reading the second Rising Stars comic book.
The first was sort of skimpy, just an introduction, while
the second is rich in graphics and storyline.

I get my copies via UPS and the Sci-fi store
because the comic book stores are too far
away for me to justify driving all that way.

Besides, it's fun to buy on-line.

As for #2, about 3/4 of the way through I
caught the spark of an idea that we all have
some special talent. It's a comic book of
the "real" world.

It's funny, if you look at anyone's astrological
chart (forget the newspaper stuff!). I'm talking
charts that are meticulously drawn up and
mathematically accurate, you can see their
special talent. I believe a lightening bolt hit
JMS when he was born and still hits him once
and a while for inspiration.

Please, no flames about astrology.

Anyway, I also occurs to me that modern
comic books are sort of dances of good
and evil printed on paper. They reflect
our times, most likely, and that explains
their popularity.

#3 comes out in early September.

#2 is listed as due out September 8th, and #3 in November.

I thought the series was planned to be a monthly? Will it become one?
I fear it'll lose readership if it doesn't. I hope not, but there's
little to no successful quarterly or bi-monthly titles.

For those of you who haven't read it, I heartily recommend it. Very good.
Very dark. Me like.

I've got an even better method to see if a writer has talent. I read
his stuff (or in this case, watch his show). Works every time.

That's what I thought (that #2 isn't out yet). I went to the comic-book
place in the mall just to make sure. Sure enough, no #2.

As was explained by Top Cow in San Diego, Rising Stars is a monthly title.
The first few months it's being solicited on a longer schedule so that
everyone has time to get comfortable with each other and avoid getting
behind schedule. I thought that made a lot of sense. JMS has approval of
_everything_ so it only makes sense to allow some time for he and Keu (and
probably the Liquid! guys) to adjust. I think it then moves to a five week
schedule. Top Cow generally solicits things on a five week schedule so that
there's one month when you won't see a solicitation at all. Don't stress
ahead of time :)
