As I understand it, there's a chance that Sci-Fi Channel might be in a
position to pick up Crusade for a second season before the actors'
contracts expire in June (or is it July?), and that this pickup would be
funded from their 2000 budget.

Would letters from viewers help them to make this decision? And, if so,
who should we write to? One source suggests writing to Bonnie Hammer,
the Senior VP of Programming. Also, Stephen Chao, the President of
Television and Marketing for USA Networks, has been mentioned as a
possible recipient of letters.

I saw the two episodes you showed at MegaCon. If the other 11 are as
good as those two, Crusade is a show that deserves to last more than
just 13 episodes. Mobilize your army, General Straczynski!

Yes, both those would be good choices.

And the best time for this would be after the episodes start airing in June. I
think we have about 5 weeks before the actors' contracts expire in July. (They
will be running all 13 straight through, or so they tell me.)

According to the Hollywood Reporter they could have afforded it this
year.

Thanks for your reply. For those who haven't found the address you need
just yet, here ya go. Write to either of the people listed above, at:

USA Networks
1230 Avenue of the Americas
New York, NY 10020-1513.

I'm planning on writing now, since I've seen two nearly-complete
episodes already, and then writing again in June, after a few other
episodes have aired. Though I realize my own voice doesn't carry much
weight, I encourage everyone to also write letters.

But...remember. Be polite. Ask, politely, that the Sci-Fi Channel pick
up the show. Include a bit of information about yourself, especially if
you're in one of the prime demographic groups. Tell them how much you
liked the episodes, and how much you'd like to see more episodes.

A few years ago, Jacque Marshall wrote up some very good guidelines for
letter writing. These were intended for people writing to their local
stations...but the same general guidelines should apply. I can't seem
to find her guidelines, unfortunately. If anyone has a copy, I would
suggest you post it.

And it really needs to be a paper letter. Even if the above people have
e-mail addresses, a paper letter will have much more effect. One of
these days, perhaps, e-mail will achieve an equal footing with snail
mail...but that day hasn't yet arrived. Send snail mail letters, after
you've seen a few episodes. Try to get other people to watch the show.
Do the same old stuff we've done all along, when B5 was in danger of
being cancelled. It can't hurt, especially if you're polite and
pleasant, and it might even help.

Now, I know that USA owns the Sci-fi channel, so are both these people
with USA or SFC? Just wondering, so that I can address the letters
properly. Thanks.

As I understand it, Stephen Chao is with USA, and Bonnie Hammer is with
the Sci Fi Channel.

And, FWIW...I do have a very reliable newsfeed, and don't need you to
send me a CC of your posts to this newsgroup. Your cooperation in not
CC'ing me will save me the trouble of answering questions like this more
than once. Thanks.
