No, I'm fine with it; it ain't like we copyrighted that phrase, and they
probably didn't think of us at all in that regard. I'll certainly try to see
the film if I can, since I enjoyed the game.

I'm kind of disappointed they didn't use Mark Hammel for Christopher Blair.

i wouldn't get my hopes up on the movie, looks more like good eye candy but so
so execution of deep space combat.
They couldn't use Mark Hamill as he portrayed Blair after he reached Colonel
while the movie takes place during the first game where Maniac and Blair are
just Lieutinents.
On a bright side, the Star Wars preview is attached to it. Course I was gonna
watch WC before that tidbit came by also.

Having seen the commercials a few times, there is obviously going to be a great
need for suspension of disbelief during the movie. At one point when a fighter is
launching off of the Tiger's Claw (or Concordia or whatever the name of the
carrier is in the movie) when it reaches the end of the flight deck it actually
DIPS over the edge as if it wasn't going fast enough to stay aloft like in an
atmosphere. Well let's just hope that it's GOOD eyecandy.

Feh. That's no arguement. They could of used him, and when he's promoted to
Colonel at the end, he would be all set for the sequel (if it does well). I'd
also like to have seen Tod Marshall (is that his name?) playing Maniac as well, I
like the humor he's brought to the character.

Well, maybe I'll get some M&Ms while they are showing that. The lines should be
short.

Arne Starr showed a long trailer for the Wing Commander movie at
MegaCon. It looked rather interesting. The effects looked very nice,
too. It's going to do quite well at the BO because the new SW trailer
will be shown beforehand, according to Arne.

The reviews I've read have not been kind. Entertainment Weekly gives it an
'F'. Their headline is 'Star Bores'.
Fox didn't even give it a very big ad in the paper today.

Quite creditable FX work; Chris Roberts' direction was also decent.
Aspect ratio appeared to be about 2.35:1, music and SFX were acceptable.
This is another one of those features coming out of Europe; think of
the UPN Thursday-night SkiFfyflix, and you'll have the Luxembourger
flavor. Not entirely bad, and the cast was drawn from relative
unknowns of many nations, so we got some new, and mostly competent,
actors.
Main problems with the movie were too much time spent on two poorly-drawn
and disposable characters ( both of whom were played by actors who busted
their tails trying to breathe some life into the poorly-written parts, and
deserved better )..... a protracted sequence involving a vacuum blow-out
which was handled very very stupidly; and a sequence where the Good Guy
Ship was lying doggo, and everyone was talking Oh So Very Quietly so
the Bad Guys couldn't pick them up on their sensors. Cut to 90 minutes
for TV, it will be much better, if they cut the *right* parts out, and
have the courtesy to show it letterbox.
The FX houses contracted turned in good work on a sane budget, and there's
room to do sequels, if they don't do poorly and go directly to video by
the end of the week. The few scenes of the Kilrathi were done well
enough, but frankly, I had trouble enjoying a "WING COMMANDER" scenario
without Hobbes in it.
I realize there were budget reasons for not having Hobbes on-screen, but
to be blunt about it, I went to the preview screening *just* to see Hobbes.
After all, if they could do Hobbes that well in the four-disk "WING
COMMANDER III" game set, you'd *think* he'd be decent in the movie, right?
The asteroid belts were far too dense, and not at all believeable, and
having capital combat ships in space combat at rock-throwing distance,
lifting broadside-firing schticks right out of 1950's Michael Curtiz
pirate movies, thrilled me not at all.
One hopes that if the Luxembourgers perpetrate a sequel, they talk to
David Weber during the production of the script.
Due to the above defects, this one's a see-only-on-matinee, at matinee
prices. I didn't regret the couple of hours I spent on it, and it
certainly was more rewarding than the last theatrical movie I had to
sit through.
Be it noted, it beat the skroddulating poo out of "STARSHIP TROOPERS."
But then, so does a test pattern.
On the flip side, I had a MST3K internal monologue going, and was fighting to
keep from laughing too loudly and getting myself thrown out of the theatre.
Write it down and send it to me (Or give it to Cronan) So I can recite
it when I see it next...

Just one question: is this misspelling of Joe's name intended to be a
farce or play-on-words? If not, maybe spelling it correctly would be a
good idea. (Also the "it's" is already possessive, so the apostrophe is
not needed.)

Just saw the Wing Commander movie today, the SW preview was pretty
impressive, and WC was a fun movie <G>

It was a fun movie to watch, despite what the reviews say, the music
in the movie is Fantastic, it rivals the works of Franke (And that
means the music is pretty good!! <G>) And it doesn't slouch in special
effects either.

Just saw the movie this Saturday. Besides the obvious submarine scenes it was
enjoyable.

But the movie bit it in the acting. No offence but those two kids looked more
relaxed in an Aaron Spelling movie. Not having played the first two games I
can't say about the so called Gift of navigating or the War of the Pilgrims was
related but it offered a good background.
If the movie didn't go with the actors of the month with the leads it would
have gathered higher praise. It was a great first time around movie for the
director considering the budget.
Just the the ships did look like stripped fighter, the cockpit look like it was
pulled out of an F-22, Shields were used and the timeline for the movie was
unrealistic (the whole movie was supposed to take place in 40 or so hours.) In
that time, they found enemies, love, death of said loved ones, super spy, and
whatever else.) I never figured out how the location of Earth was such a big
secret either.
God Damnit, B5 has really spoiled me. Well except for the space ships fighting
so close they could use spit balls. That is the only part of the space battles
in B5 I disagree with. Of course jms said that its a give and take because in
a real battle, the ships would never see each other except on screens. So much
for his ramming speed Deux ex Machina (well, he has used it upwards of 4 plus
times)

Please work on your reading comprehension skills. Note that I was
quoting someone else's information, not offering my own. Arne is
supposedly well-connected. I'd imagine he's probably got more actual
"inside" information than most of us around here. Most likely, the web
site is saying what it says for business reasons, not out of any
particular regard for the truth. Thus far, all reports I've seen from
people who have seen the trailer mentioned that they either saw it on
TV, on the web, or before Wing Commander.

Bite me. I bitched about the attribution line because I considered it
to be an uncalled-for and unnecessary personal attack.
I suppose you have no objection to my attribution line?
