One thing I worried about when I heard that the B5 story was going to be
continued in books was that the books were...well going to be crap.
Reset button, crappy stories, no regard for continuity.

The first of the new batch, Dark Genesis was EXCELLENT. And I'm glad to
say Deadly Relations is just as good! It's scope is a little less epic
than the previous one. Instead of focusing on multiple characters as teh
first did (Crawford, Blood, Monkey, Vacit, Stephen, Fiona, all of Lyta's
descendants) it focuses mainly on Alfred Bester.

But it works. Very well actually. Bester's thoughts are intersting to
read, and the insights into how children telepaths are trained is very
interesting, as well as the concept of the "Grins".

And Bester's various trial and tribulations including love, family, etc
are very well done. I'm looking forward to the next book anxiously.
There arean't as many throwbacks to the series as the first book, but
there are a few hidden references.
Although, there is one minor area in which the book is lacking slightly,
and that is development of the other characters. They are developed, but
they could have been more (ie Brett, Milla, Julia...except Bey, who was
very well done).

All in all, i'd give it a strong 9 on a 10 scale (as I would part 1).
These books are ENTIRELY worthy of carrying the Babylon 5 name, and are
part...not just an extension...of the Babylon 5 universe.
J Gregory Keyes has proven himself...I'm jsut hoping that the other two
trilogies can measure up...a hard act to follow...and i'm EAGERLY
awaiting part 3.

I think book 2 is terrific as well, maybe in some ways better than 1 because
though it's not as epic, it really makes the Psi Corps come alive in some nifty
ways.

I haven't seen 3 yet, but it should be a real kick.

The technomage trilogy, at this point, may work out to be my favorite, given
how much of the B5 storyline it interweaves.

Umm, hold up, reset, go back. nobody told me about a technomage trilogy.

Is this a press release or did jms mention this elsewhere. I remember
Centauri, Psi-Corps and one set on B5. Is it the later dealing with the
TechMage or is there a fourth trilogy in the works.

By the way, is A Call To Arms novel canon with respect Galen was an apprentice
to Elric or were these artistic embellishments by the author.

there comes a time in everyman's life when he must die.

Where did you hear about the one set on B5? JMS has
been saying the technomage trilogy would be the third
one for several months now.

True. What's your point?

Sorry Andy, in the original announcement by jms he mentioned one dealing with
psi-corp, then centauri, then one centering around the space station itself.
Now it may have in recent months changed to refer directly to the technomages,
but his reply was the first I read about. I went to the Lurker's guide and
then found out it also changed what was referenced concerning the noverls. I
usually don't reread the entire Guide as a habit.

The Gene pool could use a little chlorine.

Yes, that's canonical.
