David,

Thanks for posting your story/update to the list, and I'm delighted to hear
that you're doing so much better! I guess it's time I returned the favor to
everyone on this list and gave an update on my own case.

If you search the archives you'll no doubt find some early posts I made
about my experiences with Dr. Polacheck and the Prostatitis Center in
Tucson. I haven't posted any follow-ups for quite some time, but that's
been as much out of busy-ness with other obligations and just general
laziness on my part as anything. Speaking strictly for myself, I really
don't *want* to spend any time on this list if I don't have to--the fact
that I'm still here and still reading this regularly is some indication of
my condition. But, there's a good story behind my current CP crisis.

As a quick recap, I spent two weeks in Tucson the end of February and
another week there in April. I was on various antibiotics for about two
months. By the end of May/early June I was still in pain and was starting
to get demoralized at the thought that all that time, effort, and money was
for naught. But, then in June over a period of a month or so my symptoms
slowly subsided, to the point where by the middle of July my prostate pain
was almost completely gone. Remarkably enough, starting in mid-May I'd
gotten back on my bicycle and my mileage was increasing rapidly even while
my symptoms were improving. I tend to disagree that cycling _per se_ is
unwise with mild to moderate CP, provided you take the proper
precautions--particularly, some of the newer saddles are remarkably
improved over older designs for mitigating prostate pressure.

Then, on August 10th I started to feel that old familiar groin pain and
some irritative voiding, which grew worse over the next three days. Since
then, things have returned almost to their prior level, which is to say,
it's more than a minor annoyance--the pain is bad enough that it's a
constant distraction, and really impacts my enjoyment of day-to-day
activities.

Why did I have a month or more with almost no symptoms, only to have it
return with a vengeance? I have no idea!! I've been on massive doses of
ibuprofen for the last few weeks, and saw my GP on Friday, who performed a
DRE and reported that yes, indeed, it's "swollen and boggy." <<<<sigh>>>>>
Well, I guess I don't have "prostatodynia," anyway ;-)

Anyway, I'm going back to Tucson next month (October 16-20) to undergo a
check-up and probably another round of cultures to see if any bugs are
still growing in there. I'll try to be more diligent and keep you all
abreast of my continuing saga.

Dave,

Have you tried any herbs? I have tried a few that seem to help, which
actually surprised me. Unfortunately, I think they aren't strong enough to
cure this disease. But I do think that they help keep the symptoms from
getting too severe.
