What does this tell us?

1) The treatment is ineffective, quite obviously.

2) People are remarkably stubborn once they believe something is true.

3) The psychological importance of a caring, motivated physician
cannot be overestimated. So much so that the actual physical outcome
is almost irrelevant.

Look with suspicion at presently available 'treatments', bearing these
points in mind.

Make this "might be true." It is the uncertainty that is impels us to
keep going.
