Gioni was on Cap Cod so I woke up early and made the 1hr 45 minute
drive. Hooked up with him at Doc's and he and I headed out for
breakfast. Went to a place Doc recommended. It sure was good. Old
fashioned, down home cooking:-)

It was raining like crazy I drove him around a bit to show him a few of
the main breaks. No surf to be had anyway but I did bring my Big Ass Bad
Boy for him to ride:-)

Real nice guy. One of the first asers I ever read four or five years
ago. Always knowledgable, helpful and stoked!!!!!!

Great meeting you Gioni!!!!! Hope you get some surf on friday down
there:-) Maybe Tim M has a long board for you?......todd.

Glad you guys hooked up! Sorry I got tied up here,
if I'd known there was food I might have been able
to reschedule :)

> Maybe Tim M has a long board for you?......todd.

Nah... I sold mine, I hadn't ridden it much in the
2 years before I moved out here. Managed to get a
few hundred bucks for it. I was surprised at Rico's
party to find that Yater apparently has a real presence
out here, 3000 miles away. The guys in the Ventura
surf shops (50 miles away) were pretty blasé about my
9'6" spoon.

Surf Friday? Well, Kyle's still farting around out
there, and there's Lili, but she'll still be around
Haiti come Thursday. Maybe we could just eat. I found
a place here that makes a wicked good baked sweet potato
and apple pancake.

I'm also sorry I missed you guys. It would be great to meet Gioni, who has
provided so much surf stoke in the form of vids, pix and reports over the
years. I haven't seen Doc or you, Todd, in a long time, and have yet to meet
Tim, even though we were in the same line up during the Gustav swell. Now
that I saw his picture in the "Cape Cod Gathering" thread, I think I did see
him out in the water. He lloked like he sort of wondered what he was doing
there, squirting water through his hands while he waited and then picking
off the occasional shoulder to head-high set.

Hmmm... Not bad. Maybe we can work it into the New Fall Lineup?
We need something like a game or some sort of competition. Hosted
by Rod and Foon. Seeing how many donut shops, burger joints, 7-11s,
texacos, they can stop at on the way to surf, with a standup surfer and
this standup surfer has to actually stand up at the destination and surf.
What is the breaking point? And then Rod and Foon could recount their
standup days (cough) and reenact their breaking point. The day when they
realized they were so stuffed on garbage that they had to lay down and
belly up like a sea cucumber...

Broke out the 6'8" this week and surfed a few overhead days. Fall is here.

I've eaten with Tim, Todd, Rod, and Gioni, and a nicer bunch of guys

That was me. Maybe 50, 100 yds down from the main peak,
on a little inside wave that had nice shape.

But I was thinking about lunch. I stopped at the little
place at the base of thing they call a pier down by 'gansett
town beach which looks a lot more like a groin to me, most
people would call it (incorrectly) a jetty. Fish sandwich.
That's what it was, too, fish, and two slices of bread.
You can see why I moved on to pancakes.

Tim, Tim (shaking head sadly ) ...this is Cape Cod, there is _always_ food
someplace in there.

The place I sent 'em: Nonnie's, an old fashioned,
been-in-the-family-for-generations kind of place where you cn still get
codfish cakes for breakfast, meatloaf special for lunch and liver and onions
for supper.None of this nouvelle cuisine nonsense, we're talking genuine
cholesterol here.

Ah- then there's Grumpy's. Codfish cakes and beans for breakfast. On 6A,
just to the west of Sesuit Harbor. Another one of those place that still has
blue plate specials.

I was out on the main peak in front of the lighthouse for a while, and
moving to the inside to what they call P_______ A___, and got a wave in
between where you were. It was bigger at the peak, but choppier. P________
A___ was a little bigger two, but not as much punch. Then again, I was on a
9'6" so it didn't really matter.

Tip for next time: go to Aunt Carries for seafood, right at the four-way
stop on the way to the lighthouse. OR, since summer is mercifully over, get
some fish and chips at the Bon Vue, next door. Fresh sea bass straight from
the water and an array of high-quality beer on tap, including one of my
favorite local brews, Newport Storm Ale.

If you ever find yourself down the road at the well-known reef/point that I
still refuse to name here, go to the Ocean Mist for good food and another
impressive selection of quality brerws on tap. All that, and and a
left-hander out front that lines up perfectly for 150-yd. rides when it's
chest-high to overhead....and mark my words, it will be!!!

Just trying to relate to my audience. Posts about

surfing 2-3x solo only go so far. When are you

Why don't y'all come down for a visit and see
if you can keep up.

You can take those Jetski classes you've always
dreamed of and babysit Kira's kid while she goes
surfing. Kid doesn't need much attention, really,
he sleeps all the time.

No thnx. Somehow running around doing chores for your
"bride" and trying to squeeze in a surf session here and there
doesn't sound too appealing. Maybe later when I hit the big

Them young gals sure can pop back into shape quickly, and
she has.

Kira, whatdya think? How 'bout this fall you pick up the
baton from Eric and follow thru on his idea of a Cali surf
adventure where you cruise down the coast scoring waves
and AS points left and right. It can be like Then Came

It's a NG act. I'm really a well adjusted, optimistic little bundle
of sweetness and light with big plans for the future and a positive
outlook on life. You can't love others until you love yourself, as
I always say. Pass the fresh pack of socks! I'm ok, you're ok!

audience has never been bigger despite predictions of gloom

consider yourself adopted. Stanford's tuition benefit
is pretty good, you want to go to college?

See if you can get mom to give up the 914,
she wouldn't let me drive it, I'm dropping hints on

(in a whisper) mom will let you have the Porsche if you just
be persistent, keep asking - she'll say yes eventually.

jb's like a kid sometimes. Once
he bragged about having a "two

hysterical. I think his "Wall

imagination going strong. But,
that's what I liked about jb.

The only place they got that major is CCCHHHHHHHico State.

But that's ok, there's yuppies there too, and they drink
that high quality brewery beer. I bet they need a mascot,
you can supplement the tuition benefit by putting on a show
for the yuppies by hauling your truck out of the Sac river.

I want my boy to aim higher. Go to San Diego State and
be a Networking major. That way you'll be close to your
girlfriend and I won't have to pay all those high phone
bills. You can live at OB cheap, have lots of babes around
your place when dad comes down to visit.

Here's a c-note, lad, go take a surf trip with Carson to
Mexico, you earned it, you worked hard this quarter.

That's my boy! I'm so proud! I was trying to show

The AS BoD made out big time, but it was doing it the
all-american way - we raked off the profits and spent them
on ourselves. You want that Targa in red to match your

You must first submit them to me for critical review. If they pass
the standards I have inflicted upon AS, then and only then can they be
posted...

...or so I've been told.

Here is a recent quote from the tough guy.

"Fear of locals is a lot like sharkanoia, little skipper. The fear is worse
than the reality."

Reality is still waiting. Not coming? Thought so.
Now go act tough on the keyboard with Surf or someone else and put a dress
on while you are at it.
Damn you are easy.

That's why I fel the need to warn you. You need to be careful with
Surff. I get a 'Baddiwad Motherfucker' vibe from that dood.

I viddy a horrorshow smiling chelloveck with dashboard heads a
bobbin'. However, a quick vid o' the back seat of the auto reveals an
old black medical bag full of strack krowy bone saws, pruning clippers
and the like...

It's just a fact. Most locals are full of hot air. Maybe it's just my
body language?

> Reality is still waiting. Not coming? Thought so.

I've surfed OB(sd) at least 6 times in the last 10 years. Never had a problem
with anyone there. Never saw a tall skinny guy who spends most of his
time on his knees at the beach. But there's always a first.

Nice beachbreak.

Oh, you are trolling this time? Haha. I thought you were threatening
me again. You got me!

Surff and I got a lot in common, we both live inland,
got families we love, been to a Disney theme park in the
last year, and pander disgustingly to the 'personalities'
on AS. Oh yea, also , neither of us surf.

The only difference between us is that he's a profile and
I'm not.

Nah, Surff loves me. All the profiles on AS love me!

That's true. Localism is often a
myth.

I act tough? Cool. Tell Mr.
Blake that, OB. He says that I'm
meek.

Surff
"The meek will inherit the good surf
spots."

Sorry, dude, but you've been told wrong.

I'm the only "rules" and standards person around here now.
TT coronated me. You don't have to "get the fu*k outta my
newsgroup," but ya do have to avoid inflicting any standards
on anybody else 'les I say it's OK. OK??

Later,
Steve

My timing wasn't good...I had Monday and Friday off from work and it
rained both days with onshores and lack of surf. I did get out to
Gloucester on Thursday evening and witnessed a gaggle of longboarders
tackle some knee high windslop in one of the most scenic areas of the
coast...probably a primo East Coast day.

Instead, I headed off to the Burlington ER to ensure my ear would
clear for the flight home. Nasty sinus/ear infection was working its
magic on my head...couldn't stand it any longer.

Great to meet you finally Todd and one of these days I'll surf that
Big Ass Bad Boy!
