hi,

does anybody know how the mozilla browser can be installed in silent
(unattended) mode. I was not able to find any information about the needed
commandline switches for setup.exe.

many thanks in advance!

I would also be VERY interested in this, as I would like to be able to
give my parents (and others) a CD with mozilla on it, and all the would
need to do is doubleclick on MozInstall.bat. This would be for win9x.

Isn't there a .zip-Archive that only needs to be unpacked into the
intended directory?

But it doesn't have my parents' IMAP / SMTP settings, nor does it have
*their* address book and bookmarks, nor other preferences (mark as
deleted, nor default signature, quote level colors, etc. ;)

thanks for all your answers,

BUT like peter said - the zip method is not an real unattended (and
customizeable) installation like it is available for most other w32
applications (for example the iss method by giving the -s parameter behind
the setup.exe and providing an appropriate answer file).

i am wondering that this is not available in mozilla. how should anyone
deploy (and costomize) mozilla on hundreds of customer clients?

If you don't get an answer in this group, try asking in
netscape.public.mozilla.general. There's probably someone there who can
help you.

Thanks to Christian Biesinger for providing the wanted information:

Does that also answer my question about customized and automated
install? How?

--> IMAP / SMTP settings, nor does it have *their* address book and

bookmarks, nor other preferences (mark as deleted, nor default

signature, quote level colors, etc. <--

I think so... MozInstall.bat should contain:

mozilla-win32-0.9.8-installer.exe -ms

No?

OK, thanks. But how do I pass on all the settings to the installer
(IMAP, MYaddressbook, MYbookmarks, etc.)?

Thanks,

If you're upgrading from an earlier version of Mozilla / Netscape, it should
happen automatically (it's handled by Mozilla, not the installer).

When you say 'MY', do you mean you want to be able to give a Mozilla
installation to your parents and for them to be able to use YOUR bookmarks?

it does not matter if peter wants to give HIS or other settings to the
parents comupter.
the question is how can an automated deployment of mozilla be performed.
what if i want to distribute AND CONFIGURE hundres of PCs for a company. i
does not make sense to walk to each pcs and configure e.g. the proxy
settings and user settings.

for instance MS IE has the IEAK (InternetExplorerAdministrationKit) to do
this stuff........

The question I was asking was not, "will the bookmarks be about doubles
tennis or will they be about evergreen trees?" I was trying to determine
whether Peter was concerned about distributing a pre-configured mozilla with
various standard bookmarks etc. en masse, or whether he was trying to keep
his parents' system up to date from a previous version of Netscape 4.x or
Mozilla, in which case it has nothing to do with the install!

Your question and Peter's question are perhaps not the same?

If it's user settings that you want to configure, try editing the javascript
files in bin/default/prefs before packaging.

Macintox understood me correctly (you did not). I want to be able to
create and installation (batch)file that will create a *brand new*
installation (no previous installs) with a bookmark file, and address
book, and IMAP settings, etc. etc. etc. that *I* choose *before* the
installation.
