Has anybody managed to install OSR5.0.x on a VMWare Workstation/Virtual PC

I tried several VMWare configurations but can't get SCO to install.

Some years ago, when VMWare first came out, their online docs showed
that none of SCO's operating systems worked inside their emulation box.
I made several attempts to contact them to offer help in fixing this,
and got stony silence.
It is quite possible that it _can_ be installed and used. I doubt there
are huge fundamental problems. It's probably more a matter of slight
incompatibilities between the emulated hardware face they show and
certain drivers in the OpenServer kernel.
If you can describe exactly _how_ and _where_ it fails, we might be able
to get past the humps.

I try my best.
After booting from Boot disk at the point where the recognized hardware
is shown there's a message:
%cd-rom ...
WARNING: hd: no root disk controller was found
hd: a Boot-Time Loadable Driver may be required
...
Starting Initial System Load from: Floppy Disk
Error initializing access to device /dev/install:
There may be a BIOS setup problem
or other hardware configuration error on that device.
...
** Press Any Key to Reboot **
Any idea??

This shows two problems: the "wd" driver isn't recognizing the emulated
IDE controller, and the "fd" driver isn't recognizing the emulated
floppy controller.
Let's start with IDE. Boot with:
Boot
: defbootstr wd.debug=udma
Does that produce any additional output?

I wasn't really joking. I may want to tell you specific bytes to patch,
or something like that. Need to know exactly what version you're
playing with, and I would hope that it's 5.0.6.

of VMWare (3.1). I seem to have got a bit further :-
1. Virtual Disk is set up as SCSI(0:0)
2. CD is set up as SCSI(0:1)
3. I have downloaded and created the BTLD drivers for the BT-958 SCSI
card(http://www.mylex.com/products/multimaster/bt958_d.html) - as
this is the emulated SCSI card VMWare presents.
4.Created the BTLD floppy diskette from the download in 3. above
5.Booted the VMWare from the normal SCO boot disk
6.At Boot: I have specified "defbootstr Srom=blc(0,0,1,0)
Sdsk=blc(0,0,0,0) link=blc"
7.I provided the BTLD floppy diskette as created in 4. above when
prompted
8.The SCO screen that shows the devices now seems to correctly pick up
the Disk and CDROM
But I still get the error "error initializing access to device
/dev/install" at the point where it would read from the CD. I have tried
This with the CD as IDE (SCO status screen shows IDE CDROM but shown as
slave instead of master) This with the CD as IDE and defbootstr
Srom=wd(0,0,0,0) Sdsk=blc(0,0,0,0) link=blc Different copies of the CD
ISO Images of the CD accessed by VMWare
I seem to be so close - any advice would be appreciated.
