Here's what I tried to translate:

NS principal executives resign
NS- managers Hans Huizinga en Roy Lantain and the full board of directors
resigned yesterday, after minister Netelenbos (Transport, Public Works and
Water Management) revoked confidence on New Year's eve, because the
punctuality stayed 0,1% below the minimum of 80% which was the deal.
An angry Jan Timmer, the president of the board of directors, reproaches
Netelenbos 'machobehaviour' by taking the 0.1 procent to press for the
resignment of Huisinga. The directors refused to discharge the president and
decided to resign themselves. The two NS-managers, architects of the 'rondje
om de kerk'* , followed that example.
According to Timmer it was impossible that the management stayed. "If we
would have neglected Netelenbos' request, politics would have surtenly
called in the government attorney. Because we don't want to be blamed for
staying at all costs, we did what's not the best for NS. But we had tot
choose between two bad options." Huisinga says he's the victim of the high
tensions in NS by the bad results and the conflict of the 'rondje om de
kerk'.

Minister Netelenbos will talk this week with the works council and the two
NS-managers that remain to talk about the continuity of the railway company.
Today she will talk with the new president of the board of directors, Mr W.
Meijer, a Rabobank principal. Four top civil servants of the department of
Transport, Public Works and Water Management, and the Finance department
will temporary be the other directors.
Netelenbos alreaady has a successor of Huisinga in mind, she said yesterday.
The minister will talk with Meijer about her thougths about the future of NS
and about the man from outside the company who will lead the railway company
till the 1st of July. She doesn' want to mention a name**. "He'll receive
all space and will have to make a plan of improvement to rebuild the
confidence in NS", the minister emphasized.
She hopes that 'everyone in NS and the politics will put their shoulders' in
getting NS back on track. Yesterday she received full support for the 'big
clear-out' like she describes it in a letter. After the Easter recess a
debate will follow about actions to be taken.
* 'rondje om de kerk' (=round around the church) is the so called plan that
reduces the duty's of drivers and conductors to the trains that call up at
their stand.
** Now the successor of Huisinga has been announced to be Karel Noordzij (I

Netelenbos should resign. She's responsible for the failing policy to bring
Dutch railways to the free market. Most delays are caused by problems in
infrastructure, for which Dutch government got direct responsibility.
A new interim-manager from outside NS would do NS no good. But a new interim
minister might be a better solution.... Elections will be held in half a
year.

Excacly. From what I read on a mailing list, and hear from Dutch railway
personel, there are major miscommunications between the traffic control
(Railverkeersleiding) and the operator (mostly NS Reizigers). Since they
are seperated, the persons who control equipment and personnel for NSR
aren't in the traffic control anymore, but somewhere else where they don't
have an insight in what is actually happening at that moment. The gov't,
and Netelenbos especially, is responsible for that. This, as well as major
problems with infrastructure where Netelenbos is also responsible for,
causes perhaps not the most, but the longest delays on the Dutch railway
network.
This being said, NS is also responsible for lots of troubles, for example
there's a huge shortage of equipment at the moment, but they're working on
it (new double-deckers and old German cars will be introduced this year).

I read somewhere that there are too many trains on the Dutch network, so
it's a similar problem as in Britain. The shortage of trains sounds like
what we have in Sweden.
