these virus's where in my "_RESTORE" folder, but I can't delete them. I
tried going to both the sights Norton & Mcafee, but I can't find a removal
tool.
Thanks,
Russell

goto Control Pannel/System/System Restore select "Turn off system restore
on all drives"
This will erase your restore folders and remove the viruses from them (it
will also kill all your restore points but you cant avoid that).
A quick reeboot and all clean again:)

Only if it's XP. Micro$oft designed Me to fail with "System Restore." I've
had I don't know HOW many customers call in with Klez and there are infected
files in _Restore. Disabling it does nada. In fact, sometimes it goes
haywire and it ends up consuming the rest of your HD space. Never forget the
guy who had a 100GB drive and 93GB were used by _Restore. Oh how I HATE Me!!

I used ME for about a week before chucking the disk out of the
window...worst piece of shit Mickysoft ever made.
Only decided this week to try out my XP again...dont like it much either.

I'm going back to Win2K when I get time to do a reload.

I've scaned with Norton, AVG, and Sophos, none of these found the virus.
Scanning with housecall.antivirus.com found it, do I really have the virus?

See the following MS Knowledge Base article:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q263455

I followed the steps for the manual purge and it cleaned out my _Restore
files and hence the infected files.

What virus did housecall detect??? We're not mind readers here.

I've had housecall.antivirus.com find joke delete viruses that other AV
software didn't bother writing definitions for.

I had a lot of problems with Me until I replaced the mobo. Thankfully, the company I'd
bought the 'puter off had inadvertently put the wrong one in and informed us of the
problem. As a complete newbie prior to this, I just thought Me was crap, as I'd read.
Anyway, replaced the mobo, and on the advice of a friend, disabled system restore, and no
problems since then. That was around January, and it has been pretty much plain sailing
since then.

I have also noticed that online scans sometimes prompt AntiVir to find
viruses (last was NewLoveA, propogated via Outlook I read, tho I never
use Outlook)that AntiVir doesn't find on its own scans, & no other
online scans detect. I find this all confusing.BTW-nothing is wrong w/
the computer.

Anna........would you jump off a cliff on the 'advice of a friend'???? I
have used WinME for 18 months and System Restore is worth it's weight in
gold. I have NEVER had a problem with it. Perhaps if you understood how it
worked and how to clear viruses from it, then you would change your mind.

I will never understand people who blindly follow what others tell them to
do. Go to the MS n.g's and find WinME and a few of the knowledgeable MVP's
who DO understand how it works and then rethink your position.

Heather (hey Dee....don 't forget to tell newbies to re-enable SR after
purging....grin)
