When we transfer a file using FTP the permissions are always rw- r-----
When we create a file on the system using the same login the permissions are
rw-rw-rw-
we need to have rw-rw-rw , does anyone have any idea why the file
permissions are restricted in this way Sco-Unix 5.04

Sigh. 'man ftp' look at the -u modifier. 'man inetd.conf' to find out
how ftpd is started up by default (doesn't have to be). 'man ftpaccess',
search for 'umask'.
man is a wonderful invention, for those who want to know how things
work.
Try 'man man'.

Sorry, 'man ftpd'.
The Unix Box is managed by an outsource company who say that we cannot have
rw rw rw but as you say their is the -u modifier.
being newish to unix I have looked an man ftpd and am not sure what entry it
is saying has to be be made in the inetd.conf file. I would appreciate a
liitle bit more help if it is not too much trouble.
many thanks
Ron
